Given the spine can vary 10-35mm in length during the day (decompressed overnight, compression during the day), I don't think you need to millimeter accurate with most measurements.

Very cool tool, not sure I could replicate the building of the tool, but still very cool! I have this iPhone app that measures seat tilt by resting it on the seat, curious how accurate it is compared to the accurate measurements you used.

Question, with the various handlebar types wouldn't it make more sense to measure the grip position of your hands? If so, is it a problem for this tool when it's not parallel to the frame?

Yes , always measure from the three contact points...hands , feet , sitbones.

I like your DIY tool! I think I will give it a go. BUT, if I don't find the time/energy to get this done, is there a tool for sale out there that you would recommend in it's place? Or in other words, what is the best available commercial made tool that an independent bike fitter to purchase?
