Thanks for the advice video. That’s a really comprehensive tool set. Just preparing for JOGLE so this was helpful.

Glad it was helpful! You probably don’t need quite as many things as I brought with me on my trip though. What is your timescale for completing JOGLE?

@@TouringDragon hi, I am hoping for about 20 days. Not very impressive for most people but first big tour for me.

@@tonyfrewin4822 when I did it I allowed for 21 days / 3 weeks. I followed the route from cycle.travel in reverse, which skipped a lot of the climbing around the Lake District and Peak District, but added an extra 100 miles or something. I really enjoyed it and ended up finishing it in 17-18 days. The wind was a bit of a pain, if I had to do it again I’d start in Penzance, but the travel arrangements were easier for me in the way I did it. I wish you all the best man and I’m sure you’ll do great. Let me know how you get on.

@@TouringDragon I have had the same thoughts about head winds but like you the logistics are harder to get back down south after. Now after having train tickets for months, there is a train strike on the day of travel 😂. Just bought another set of tickets. Now running 2 days later

500 kilometers (8:45) will NOT get you from Alaska to California! How about adding a zero to that? One thing that Europeans often fail to understand is the distances in North America: they are huge, at least by European standards. I recently rode the Pacific Coast from Seattle to Salinas (south of San Fransisco), and just that was 1300 miles (VERY hilly miles!). I met a French couple riding from Alaska to Mexico, and they had ridden a few thousand kilometers before they even crossed into Washington State from Canada; they rode from Anchorage through Yukon, Alberta and British Columbia before re-entering the USA. Even just California is big, about as big as England, Scotland and Wales combined! Don't underestimate the distances involved. Many years ago I rode from Toronto across the USA to the Pacific Northwest, then around southern British Columbia and Vancouver Island and up to Prince George BC before riding south to Southern California, and during that summer I rode 7000 miles! Good luck from an expat Brit in SoCal.

You’re right, good spot! I misspoke and I intended to say 5,000km, but even then I was rounding the numbers quite crudely. I think I arrived in California around the 7,000km mark in the end and my bottom bracket lasted me over 10,000km. I plotted a lot of different routes around the Americas so I’m pretty familiar with how far things are, but I do expect a lot of people who aren’t familiar.
