Are you people fucking serious? Are you really bashing these men who went OUT OF THEIR WAY to assist a lost and clearly confused animal? Oh and another thing, for the love of god quit calling this animal abuse. A young HUMAN child who was separated from his mother would be just as disoriented and confused as this animal, and I guarantee if you tried to make a child that wasn't yours eat or drink something they wouldn't. Animals and humans alike are weary of strangers. Just because this moose (it's 'moose', if I see 'mose' or 'mosse' again i'm going to die) doesn't instantly accept the liquid it's being offered, that is NOT an indication of it being thirsty or not. For god sakes can we just let a beautiful, kind thing happen in this world for ONCE without criticizing and hyper analyzing it?

Well do you literally mean "ALL" living thing? Cockroaches, worms? Bacteria? Personally i not trying to hurt insects, but if i do i do. But mammals in another thing. I can tell more how they feel, if they are said or feel lonely. I think its wrong when people have animals in small cages, like birds, hamsters or rabbits. I also think we mistreat a lot of animals in general. I don't understand how stray dogs are so common in many countries. It's mans best friend.

For those thinking they're giving it Gatorade, which it looks like water, wouldn't be a bad thing at all. That's a very good thing. The calf is most likely dehydrated and Gatorade is full of Electrolytes which are essential for normal organ and body function. Glucose, Potassium, Magnesium and Sodium. Does anyone know what came of the baby moose?

hoo boy .... the comments .... where to begin ... 1) Anybody who knows anything about moose (and I do) will know that this is an orphan. I would not be surprised if the dead cow is in the ditch right nearby. Because they will not leave one another. If the cow WAS still alive and able, she would have made a rather dramatic and violent entrance somewhere during the course of that video. Assuming that these guys know a little about moose (and I am assuming they do because they sound like Maritimers) I am guessing that they had at least a pretty good idea that it was an orphan. Otherwise they would not be so relaxed in handling it. 2) No, Gatorade is not the natural food for a moose calf. But Gatorade won't kill it. Dehydration however ... 3) As for losing their fear of humans .... this calf is pretty well brand new. Most wild animals don't have a fear of humans at this age. That develops later. This is why so many wild animals that defy domestication (like .... say ... MOOSE!!) can be tamed if you get them while they are a baby. Anyway, losing it's fear of humans is WAY down the list of worries for this little guy anyway. All in all, good job guys. Lots of people would have just driven on by.

I did see one where the baby was trapped in someone's backyard and the mother was a few houses down eating as if she didn't even care that the baby was trapped. Man that helped was very cautious about picking the baby up and putting it over the fence. I kept yelling at my phone...just pick him up already...she don't even care. 😊

This reminds me when my mom told e her dad had been out hunting and he found a buck and shot at it. He didn't know a doe was right beside it, lined up perfectly and he shot them both. He stayed and looked for a fawn and found a little buck. He took both the deer home and ate them with his family and let my mother raise the fawn. She named him Buck and he ended up becoming domesticated. Their entire neighborhood knew him and loved him, he even wore a collar. My mother even told me he loved chocolate chipped cookies and would steal anyone's grocery bags if he scented any. But then an old lady moved in and she wasn't used to the buck just walking up to her and she got animal control involved and they ended up taking him into the forest and shooting him be cause they couldn't release him. My mother was really sad cause she and Buck were best friends. That lady didn't stay long, I think she said within a month she moved, the whole town was upset with her.

The mother is dead. As anyone who has ever been around a mother moose before, she would NEVER be "too afraid" to come around her baby just because there are people around. It's a MOOSE, for pete's sake, not a bird or a rodent. Clearly, you've never seen a mother moose charge people when they get too close to her baby. This one looks to be no more than 2 or 3 days old. VERY new, but not day old. And giving it Gatorade is EXACTLY the right thing to do. It has electrolytes, which greatly aid in re-hydration. To leave it without giving it a drink would be the WRONG thing to do. There's no way to know how long it's been without and dehydration kills very quickly. The sugars in it will also give the poor little thing a bit of energy, even if it doesn't last very long.

You should NEVER feed wild animals like this. They then lose their fear of people and then come into town, looking for food when they get older, and could kill someone that hits them with their car. It happens every year. Think! His mother could abandon him while you are doing this. Then what? Now if the mother got killed, you could turn her over to to the wildlife department of the state.

Helen S. As someone who has actually bottle fed orphaned deer, elk, and moose (no, NOT as pets, and NOT for the kicks and giggles, but for a wildlife park that would take in orphans placed there from Fish and Game, for anyone interested in the why), I assure you they were not rough with the little one at all. When you first start bottle feeding an animal that has previously had the chance to nurse from its mother, they don't want the bottle. At all. They may need it desperately, but they don't want it. It takes extreme patience and often a gentle but firm hand to get them to finally accept a bottle and your weird tasting milk formula. We would consider it a success when they were taking the bottle willingly within a week. Most often it was longer than that. We've had older elk calves that never took to it and had to be tube fed just to keep them alive until they were old enough to survive being weaned. If there's one thing they hated more than being stimulated to go to the bathroom and force fed a bottle, it was being tube fed. As far as their use of Gatorade, it actually couldn't be much more perfect for the situation. A few years ago we received a very young moose calf, actually fairly similar in size to this one, if not even a bit smaller. It had been away from its mother for at least 3 days before Fish and Game picked it up, so as you can imagine it was in very poor condition. The first thing the vet did was administer a fluid mixture directly under the skin. The fluid was water with added electrolytes and sugar. Exactly what you'd find in the Gatorade. It perked the little guy up for the time being. We were told to mix the powder of his formula with Pedialyte instead of plain water to add those extra electrolytes and keep him hydrated. He seemed to be improving for a bit, then took a turn for the worst over a few short hours. After one very long night being hooked up to an IV and going through 3 bags of intravenous fluids (the same mixture with added sugar and electrolytes) he passed away in the early morning. The vet said that those three days without mom, without proper hydration and nutrients, had done too much damage to his internal organs to be reversed. If he had gotten fluids earlier, he likely would have made it. Even if they had been carrying a jug of milk with them, cow's milk is not sufficient for a moose calf. The balance of minerals and nutrients is all wrong, and it doesn't have nearly high enough fat or protein levels for a moose to survive off of. And that's in its raw form. It's even more useless to a baby animal after being processed for human consumption. Besides that, they would need a way to warm the milk. Cold milk will actually go sour in their stomach, and make them sick. Giving it milk would have done MUCH more harm to it. The worst the Gatorade will do is increase its hydration, and good hydration is ESSENTIAL for just about every organ in your body. And, lastly, there's a very good chance that this little guy is indeed orphaned. With deer fawns, for the first month or so of their life they are not fast enough to outrun a predator. Their best chance of survival is to lay low and hide while mom is out foraging, preferably a fair distance away. Deer fawns are left alone more often than not for their first few weeks of life. Moose, however, have an easier time of keeping up with mom and their mother has a much better chance of defending their calf from a predator. A mother moose will almost never willingly leave her calf. There have been times where they get temporarily separated by accident, but they aren't common. Mother moose are also notoriously protective over calves. I have no doubt that if she had been alive and well, and able to see what was going on, that she would be charging out of the trees to chase the people away from her baby. I can only hope that these people did call the Fish and Wildlife Service for whatever area they're in. Sometimes they couldn't care about deer fawns, but usually they're more inclined to act with a moose calf. If mother is indeed dead, or unable to locate her calf, the little guy stands zero chance of survival on its own being that small, and the sooner they can get him in the hands of someone who knows how to care for and raise wild animals, the better its chance of survival.

I am sure something probably happened to the Mother. Moose are very protective of their young, and she would never let this baby just wander onto a road. I hoped they called someone to rescue the baby, to many predators, it would not last a night, and it is still so small, it needs it's mommies milk still :(

Its a baby moose. Its mother would not leave it like that unlike the deer would. The mother could possibly be dead or the calf is lost.

Wow i wouldn't have a clue what to do - leave it there, or get it to a sanctuary.........how far that might be. Do moose leave their young and return to them like deer? Is it lost? I'd be worried it needs more help. But you gave it some nice energy booster. Hope it was ok and lived well after this. ♥️💕

I'm preety sure the CLEAR liquid in the bottle is water not Gatorade some people reuse the bottles. Clear Gatorade rain was discontinued in 1999. Nice bikers although I do agree they should be more careful around.baby moose

Gatorade is NOT a good idea to give a wild animal. They only drink WATER. Plain and simple. I appreciate these guys not being mean to this animal but seriously.....gatorade??? c'mon guys!!

Dude they had nothing else probably. Gatorade is better than nothing else. In what way should it hard the calf? C´mon akitanocheoro - they did a nice job with what they had.

That is nice that those guys stopped to help the calf as it is looking for it's mother who must have been out looking for food. They got the calf to drink some water, but hopefully enough to sustain the calf until it finds their mother.

I'm curious as to where the baby moose's mother was though...If she was still alive and in the area, those bikers were in huge trouble had she returned to find them with her baby...lucky guys in that respect lol. She'd have torn those guys apart.

I hope he finds a foster mother because it looks like he lost his real mother. This is so horrific when the mother is shot by hunters. People need to nurse the baby to health. He is skin and bones. Thank you guys for giving him water. That is very kind of you to help him.

NEVER give an orphaned animal ANYTHING to drink or eat. You have no idea how detrimental it can be. Keep it safe and warm and call a wildlife rehabilitator.

Usually the mother is close by, so you should actually have left it alone. That's because if the female moose catches you with her baby, she'll get kind of nasty..
