I’m so lucky to live in Vienna. People really respect the bike lane here. Sometimes we have a full lane only for bus/taxi/bicycle and at times there’s only me cycling, no busses or taxis and you won’t see a single car on that lane. And even in car shared lanes the cars are patient and don’t overtake if it’s not safe to do so, and with one signal to the left, the cars stop passing you until you make your left turn. We are not Amsterdam but for a City, that’s well done. 🇦🇹🙌

NYC can be such a fantastic bike friendly city with raised bike lanes that’re wide and on both sides of the street with Dutch style intersections, priority for bikes at signals and at some sections completely remove signals by making the sidewalk raised and continuous thus forcing car drivers to yield to bikes and pedestrians.

What if there was a system where you can report such infractions with video evidence to the city. The perpetrator gets a fine. The city gets a piece of it, and so does the person who submits the video. Then overtime that money can be used to build bicycling infrastructure to address the problem.

In my city we recently added a couple bike lanes with a 2 ft space between that and the parking (bike lane-2ft of space-parking-road). Cars consistently park RIGHT up against the bike line so they can avoid being closer to the road. The 2ft of space is there so their car door can open and not enter the bike lane. It drives me bananas every day I drive past.
