Bilal ibn Rabah, born into slavery in Mecca, was an Ethiopian who embraced Islam early and endured brutal persecution from his master, Umayyah ibn Khalaf, without renouncing his faith. Known for his unwavering commitment and the repeated declaration "Ahad, Ahad" ("One, One"), Bilal's resilience led to his purchase and emancipation by Abu Bakr. He became the first muezzin, chosen by the Prophet Muhammad for his beautiful voice, and participated in significant battles, including Badr, where he confronted Umayyah. After the Prophet's death, Bilal moved to Syria, dedicating his life to jihad and spreading Islam, though he briefly returned to Medina to call the adhan at Caliph Umar's request, moving many to tears. Bilal died in Damascus, remembered as a symbol of faith, perseverance, and equality, with a lasting legacy as one of the Prophet's greatest companions.
