And to be quite honest, I don't even think Old Billy Red Balls is fully to blame. I'd blame more whoever the editor was. There's a decent movie in there somewhere. I just think it was left on the cutting room floor. And if one assumes Bill had final cut, I don't understand how he saw the finished product and thought, "Yeah. This'll work." Bill is such a stickler with his body of work. He's borderline a perfectionist. I just can't wrap my brain around it. Also, they're film critics, not comedy critics. They study film for a living and enjoy stuff like Michael Haneke. Giving the movie a twenty-something percent rating is ridiculously low. But to be fair, it's no masterpiece. The acting isn't great, the story-writing isn't either and idem for the camerawork and montage. I'd give it something more in between high 50% and 70%. I guess there indeed is some kind of personal vendeta from the critics, although you could say the opposite from the "normie-reviews". They seem to have either given it high scores out of being a fan (not really objective), or out of a counter to the critics low score.

For more than 40 years I've disagreed with movie critics. It's simply that their job has zero emphasis on how entertaining a movie is. The public goes to see a movie to laugh out cry or feel some way. It's emotional. We don't want to analyze the cinamatography or lighting or the directors vision. The last few years has added the social justice metric to the critics equation. How many non white non straight actors were cast? Is the crew diverse enough? Were social issues significantly covered? Was the correct political/religious thoughts disparaged enough? Most of the public, even when they care about those things don't go see a movie because of these subjects unless they are sufficiently tied to the plot. But it's what critics love. And these days it seems to be the only thing critics care about. They've thrown out the question of whether it's a good film and only concentrate on wether it's socially conscious enough.

Saying the critics don’t like something means one type of person doesn’t like it.

It wasnt a masterpiece but it was a breath of fresh air. It was funny and had a basic story. Something i cant say for a lot of movies now.

Everyone knows the true rating for a comedy is the rotten tomatoes audience score MINUS the critics score is the true score.

Imagine taking anything rotten tomatoes says seriously in 2023. It's the movie version of the source magazine

It's not a reviewer's job to gauge how the masses feel about something. A review is a personal opinion.

Old Dads is a non-PC movie that people were craving for... Disney took over most of Hollywood and release the same shit over and over again It was nice to see something finally authentic with Bill Burr's marks all over it

I’m a millennial with a sick sense of humor who likes bill burr, with that said, this movie shoe horned every millennial stereotype for a laugh. It was exhausting lol. The cussing and vulgarity wasn’t the issue, it was the boring old “this new generation to a middle aged man” gimmick.

I can understand why the critics are hating it. Their complaints are so clueless, complaining that an R rated comedy is vulgar and uses the f word lot is like complaining about too much cgi in a marvel movie!

Rotten tomatoes had for a long time been the absolute worst aggregate. Rotten in the name is pure irony. Not just applicable to this, but there is a clear disparity between art hating "critics" and the actual real audience.

RT broke itself when it was exposed for having pay for play policies for positive critic scores and reviews. Credibility is trashed ever since that came out.

Critics score is calculated by showing the movie to random people and asking them "thumbs up or down". Audience score is calculated with the actual audience, the people who were interested in checking it out. The more niche a movie is, the more the number grows apart by design. Basically critic score is bs.

I honestly don't understand why people still look to the mainstream critics for any kind of perspective. It's been clear for a long time that if a movie, song, or any other piece of art doesn't fit their narrative or agenda, then they will just trash it. It's so clearly biased, yet people still look to them for their perspective. Soooooooo confusing to me.
