@BrassBashers

Well you don't REMEMBER getting black out, it's part of the definition 😅 I had maybe 18 shots of whiskey last night and I remember going to bed.... but I definitely can't remember the end of the episode of the show I was watching. So many nights I couldn't tell you that and have to restart the episode. Also the more of a tolerance you have, you can feel and seem normal where your friends are talking to you and you seem fine, but you're blacked out.

Not that simple. You forget the physical addiction, I CAN'T sleep at night unless I drink some liquor. If I don't drink enough some nights I won't go to sleep. Other nights if I have 6 shots (mixed in drinks), I can go to sleep but also will wake up when the alcohol is not longer in my blood then can't go back to sleep. I should have taken my own advice I gave a buddy about 10 years ago. He drank gin every night "Do you think I have a drinking problem?" "Well, can you go to sleep without drinking? Try it." He came to me a few days later and told me I was right, he couldn't sleep without it. "Then, you have a problem. But it's not too late to fix it." I feel it might be too late for me. And yes when those demons call I have skipped out of work to drink or driven to the liquor store Saturday morning so I could drink and sleep all day cause I don't wanna be awake.

@pjsteels Ive had my share of substance addiction, and if you can crack the two week mark, you can beat the physical part of it but if you've got to make the choice you have to want to do it for yourself. If the demons aren't faced, you will never want to change.

@Scott Johnstone I hear you. I'm at a pretty low point right now, quit my job because I got screwed over on a promotion and raise and now my good friend I worked with last week is avoiding paying me. Pretty much avoiding me altogether. I don't drink to black out every day or drink before work, but it's pretty much and every night affair. I stay at home so I don't get in trouble. I'm definitely not drunk all the time or at rock bottom, but I know this shit will kill me early if I don't stop. I can't remember last time I did 2 weeks, that probably hasn't happened since I started drinking at 16... And then after that you still have your neural pathways you have to change and that takes months or even years. Basically gotta switch your chemical addiction for a physical one. Last time I lost a bunch of weight I was working out and riding my bike everywhere, quit smoking cigarettes for a year only drank once a week. That was back in 2015 though. And I still never fully quit anything.

As for the last one, I don't trust the girl. She's lied to you, showed a penchant for cheating, and disrespected you by treating you as a rebound. I'd just walk, regardless if she breaks up with her boyfriend or not.
@ArtOfficialKreations

I think he should definitely walk *IF* the girl’s penchant for cheating, as you put it, [lol, btw], is _in fact_ a character flaw, and not just a one-off.. He should basically just pump the brakes a little bit on pursuing her, but see what she does with her current ‘on the rocks’ & ‘about to be over’ relationship.. i think her actions beyond that point would give a better idea whether or not she’s the heartbreaker type..

Michael Anthony nah once a cheater always a cheater, especially if they cheat when completely sober. Even if she is the 0.001% who only cheats once, she literally admitted to him that “she’s not looking for a relationship now”. Plus she’s a college chick who’s about to break up with most likely a semi-long term relationship. That is not the kind of girl you want to tie down. If he’s only looking to hook up with her for a few weeks and then cut ties, then yeah I say go for it and just be fuck buddies. But if he’s looking for a long term girlfriend, I’m 100% sure he can find someone better. Seeing as he’s a young dude in college, basically the best place you could ever be for getting over someone and finding another chick immediately.

If you keep drinking long enough, the amount that makes you happy will give you partial blackouts, by the end of the night, on a certain percent of nights. Many people, without alcoholism in the genes, become alcoholics because of all sorts of other reasons than the actual chemical addiction of the alcohol. It'll creep in when your are vulnerable or depressed about something else or damaged in another way.
