I’m very jealous Bill is amazing. An incredible craftsman.

I'm very fond of the Planes that he makes from the old brass saw backs (not that I've got one!). Something about reusing what may be waste material and turning it into such a delightful object. The stamp becomes an integral part of the aesthetics.

I love Carter's plane. Old school craftsmanship.

@rdwile Hi Richard, as bill 'ages' his planes you can use use them to your hearts content without detracting anything from their value. I've found the most useful size is arond 6" long with a 1 1/2" blade, the Norris 11 copy and the thumb plane in the video.

Hi David, Do you know what are the bed and blade angles for these planes? I tried looking at Bill's site, and did not manage to find this info. Would appreciate your help.

@@user-xe6ik5xq7j Usually you should first see what your final cutting angle will be. For regular woods it should be 45°, for a smoother 50°, for tropical hardwoods between 50-60°, and for ivory 60°. If you are making wooden handplanes they should be made bevel down, and the bed angle will be the same as the cutting angle. Infill planes with thick steel soles and ridgid steel sides can be made bevel up, meaning you should substract about 30° from your cutting angle. Bevel up planes are rarely made for cutting at low angles, because a bed angle of under 15° makes for a fragile plane.

I have to say they look very uncomfortable and unwieldy to use . Oh yes they cut wood and the dovetail joints are skillfully done but a long time planing with any of these would be pure torture.
