The memory of that concert vividly comes back to me every time I hear this last trio. He was alone sitting on a bar stool during a break. I saw how puffy his hands were and pretty big guy he was, less 3 or 4 feet away... I still regret that I did not have a courage to introduce myself and at least thank him for all the beautiful music... I hope I can meet him in heaven or hell some day... or somewhere in between...xxx

I had a great fotune to hear Bill Evans a week or so before he passed away at Fat Tuesday's or Blue Note in early September of 1980. (can't remember which one now) I sat for two sessions for the first night, went back for the last day. Of course, he was announced to be out of commission, substituted by a young apprentice... with Marc Johnson and Joe Labarbera. It took almost 2 or 3 months for Bill's passing to my knowledge.

Bill is awesome, that goes without saying, but DAMN that was some silky smooth drumming there. i was thoroughly entertained and a little surprised that Bill stepped out of his usual introspective stuff into some more high energy, upbeat pieces.

Keep listening, it will be worth it, I promise! Bill Evans' music is very rewarding and has different moods on many recordings. Listen to his early records, he swung in a more obvious way as he was very influenced by Bud Powell, Horace Silver and Red Garland (people you might want to investigate as well)......Good luck discovering more music!

@toyotayaruno There's a (completely legal, they pay the copyright holders) free lead sheet on wikifonia . If you want an actual transcription of Bill's playing, check out Pascal Wetzel's book of Evans transcriptions, you'll find it or refs to it on the web. But I don't know whether he transcribed this performance.

Opinions are cool I suppose. And not all listeners are the type that have heard and listen to all the various styles of jazz which endless. I feel this beautifully played and as for swing...what are you talking about? Please show me an example of what u mean by swing. This is pretty swingin

Yeah this might be the wrong place to look for that kinda feel. Bill Evans is heavily influenced by French Western classical music and it mixes beautifully with his jazz feel. If I were you I would check out Oscar Peterson.

Yeah, midi recordings do sound like crap, but their rhythm is perfectly exact. I'm just saying that when Bill Evans plays, every little note goes right where it should. For instance, the thing he does in the bass clef at 2:13
