Good to see this happening to young people like Rubin. I too came to this country 30 years ago, primarily inspired and attracted to its liberalism, to its freedom of speech, and tolerance to diversity of thoughts, races, lifestyles, etc. then during those 30 years something gradually happened: liberalism was transformed FROM “I may disagree with what you say but will fight for your right to say it” TO “if you disagree with me you’re Hitler”. I noticed this slow almost imperceptible changes in the 90s so by the early 2000 when I became a citizen, I was already in the conservative side of policies…never went back.

And to wait until it is safe to do so, otherwise they may get 'canceled', in more ways than one. Thomas Sowell mentions that (paraphrasing here) the definiton of conservative and liberal are not correct. It is said/believed that conservative are against change. That is incorrect. Conservatives prefer to make changes that work and have considered the possible outcomes of those changes. Today's liberals want change without considering the "trade offs'. Actually they might not believe in the concept of a 'trade off'. It seems the modern liberal, acutally a leftist, does not want change for the better but change to destroy what is today.

I can agree with one thing at least. The "cancel rent/mortgages" thing is actually relatively consistent with Adam Smith's warnings about ground rents and fractional reserve banking. They're part of a larger usury scheme that will inevitably siphon away the nation's wealth. All it takes is shifting the tax burden away from productivity and income, and instead onto ground rents. Though we're also going to need a new currency. The switch to fiat was theft by the state and banks. We should return it to the people.

The problem with the states, seen from an abroad view (Sweden), is that you lump everything "non conservative" into "liberal" and that also includes "socialism". You need a third party that is social democrats as opposed to liberal democrats. A liberal democrat stands for the freedom of the individual, freedom of speech and freedom of an open marrket and where the individuals are not controlled by the state. A social democrat stands for favoring the collective, controlling/regulating free speech and controlling the market and where the state is controlling the individuals. Two opposing political thoughts lumped into the same party is what creates these problems! That you automatically equals "Liberal" with "Left wing" in general when in reality "Liberal" in a classical sense is centric or even right wing. At least here in Europe "liberal" is considered centric/right wing.

The problem with him and others like him are they are full of hatred and loathing for everything conservative and therfore ignored valid arguments about this nonsense before it was too late. I have very little forgiveness in my heart for people whose arrogance blinds them to the truth.

It's because the right was saying the same things. You can't speak against religion because it's offensive, you can't sing that song because it encourages violence in children, videogames are making children violent..etc. please don't be a hypocrite. Being liberal has always been the same thing, it's been about freedom.

@@dhanu_4539 I'm not buying the equivalency argument anymore. There are way more on the left that brand than there are on the right and Bill Maher and media on the left is mostly responsible for it. Ask yourself this question - Which side has made a concerted effort to shut down speech based on hate and misinformation all while stirring it up and lying to their audiences?

"A small contigent who've gone mental, and a large contigent who refuse to call them out" Correction: "A small contigent who've gone mental, and a large contigent who refuse to call them out, and another small contigent that are mental in a different way: they are calling them out but at the same time they keep on voting blue no matter what anyway." FIFY, Bill. And you're part of that 3rd group.

If conservative means worshipping a "Man" who wears pounds of makeup and bleaches "his" hair like Dolly Parton , and Left means believing men can get pregnant, moderate is the only way to go.

I love what Maher says often, but you know that even if there was the wokest of woke candidates (oh wait...) he's still going to pull the lever for them over anyone who would actually do anything about it. He's like that girl that flirts with you heavily at school but when you ask her out says she just wants to be friends.

Rubin states that "Progressive" has become "Regressive". To me, "Regressive" could be substituted with "Oppressive" and the statement would be just as valid.

Exactly. Maher has no principles and no integrity - the only reason he cares about is that it might hurt his political "team." If he thought brainwashing and mutilating children had no electoral consequences, he'd either actively support it or claim it wasn't happening, for the sole reason that it's a Democrat thing. He's dirt.

I was stationed in Japan in 2003, after which I married an Indonesian woman and moved to her country, where I lived until 2020. Back in 2003, I was considered a radical leftist. My stances on abortion were considered radical in that I am pro-abortion; I think more women should get abortions. My stances on crime were considered radical; I believe we should focus prisons on rehabilitation. I support the legalization of sex work and narcotics. I think we should allow foreigners who graduate from American universities to be able to work in the states with a pathway to citizenship. Etc. I am a classical liberal. Yet, when I come back 2020, the platform of the left is fucking insane. I'm considered a conservative for thinking biological reality is a thing. Who and what you are isn't determined by how you identify. I'm called a conservative because I recognize the economic and social reality of open borders being untenable, that restricting who we let into our country is not racist or bigoted. I'm called a conservative for thinking judges should rule based on the law, not whatever social trend is vogue at the time. I'm called a conservative because I don't think that conservatives are inherently racist, sexist fascists. Etc. So, congratulations Democrats. Like many others, I can no longer align myself with your party, and I find Trump advocating for more of my reasonable classically liberal views than the Democrat candidates.

I'm like you, but the liberals have shifted the Overton Window so far to the left, it's insane. I hate morality laws and rules.
