I attended a course with Bill in London years ago when I first started teaching and I still use these techniques to this day!

This is so good - he taught me at Teachers College in Melbourne in 1989 and his advice is still relevant today.

Thank you for this! I'm reading Mr Rogers' book Classroom Behaviour for the second time. I've had the opportunity to work in numerous schools as a cover teacher through which I've learnt, as Mr Rogers said, a sense of calmness in the teacher is significantly important.

Not a bad video. Have you given up on pre examining the psychological underpinning of minor behaviours?

Useful video. Shame about the poor sound - some lapel mics would have been useful.

Very true. He points it out himself in the video and I wonder if its an area he reflects on in his teaching.

What do you do when a misbehaving student (teenager) puts conditions on accepting the consequences you dish out to them? For example, they are repeatedly talking in class, so you move them into a seat away from their friends. They move, but then as they sit down they tell you that - "I'm not going to change my behaviour because of this. I'm still going to talk when I want to".

I would imagine you move up to the next stage which would vary from school to school. Typically a teacher would (remaining calm and not loud still) state the consequences of his actions if he continues and then if that doesn't help, you follow through.

I'd class that as a secondary behaviour and I'd ignore it tbh.

The vibrating fingers to attract the pupil attention by Mr. Bill Rogers is interpreted by me as “fast…I don’t have time for you !” although he certainly does not mean that.

He seems so calm, too calm perhaps to exemplify bad behaviour. Also he uses "calling out" tons of times - can't he vary his vocabulary a bit? Nice drawings but I feel I haven't learned much here. Ta though
