This was the most powerful and effecting moment in 90s TV. Forget all the cop and hospital dramas, this is when the cast of the funniest show on TV shed real tears over the real death of a real friend and still stayed in character. Every time Dave Foley starts choking up I start crying

How is it possible that the only version of this episode on the internet has the most annoying background noise possible? Great job, Spielberg!

Roku Channel has the full series. I just watched this very episode and I couldn't keep it together. 🙁

Interesting choice of the director to add the sound of a dog giving birth in the background of this scene. Adds a lot of depth.

Phil has been gone for 26 years and here I am crying watching this. Dave choking up is just so heartbreaking. Gone but never forgotten.

The two reasons I disliked this video 1: the vintage filmed in the t.v quality 2: the annoying noise I hear in the background

Dave's voice breaking is how a lot of people felt...Phil was such a gentle kind person and his murder was senseless and uncalled for.

This is one of the most underrated shows of its time and Dave Foley is a fully unrecognized genius who would have been brilliant on a vehicle like The daily show. He never quite got the role that was made for him

I was never really a fan of Hartman. But many people were, and what happened to him was truly tragic. This is a great show and this episode was extremely well done.

Currently watching Newsradio on Antenna TV. I forgot about this show until I saw Hartman and then I remembered when he died. Very somber and solemn episode.

How could they continue to work with Andy Dick, knowing his actions caused Phil's murder?

He wasn’t directly responsible for Phil’s murder, but he indirectly contributed to it. But I agree that they shouldn’t have continued working with Andy Dick.

He was not directly responsible, and keep in mind, Phil’s wife was also jealous of the fame and success Phil was achieving. SHE wanted to be an actress, and despite Phil trying to help her out, she didn’t have the skills and comedic talent.

The reality of death on a comedy show. How do you say goodbye? I remember when this situation happened on Barney Miller, they handled it straight on. The cast talking out of character to remember their fallen colleague. RIP PH
