I'd never heard this song till a couple of days ago when I was introduced to it by a choir I belong to. We had a virtual meeting on Zoom and we'd been sent the words in an email from our leader and printed them out then we sang them online - each on our own. The words I've got aren't quite the same but it's a cheerful little song and lifts my spirits in these days of lockdown and not being able to go outside. Thank you Bill Staines.

Great song, great voice, great guitar. Just terrific. Thanks. I played this at children's concert and they walked around the rest of the day singing the chorus. Mike

I have long called this song 'the gospel according to Makem and Clancey', because of it's message of equality and inclusiveness. Everyone belongs, and everyone has a role to play in this world to help make it a better place for all. to the best of their individual abilities. This is one of my all-time favourite songs. I didn't know until a day or two ago that it was written by Bill Staines.... now I know.

This is the song that I simg when I'm out for a walk with my cat, reminding her that she needs to share this earth with the birds and the squirrels and the rabbits, and have peaceful coexistence with All God's Critters. This pretty much works, most of the time. I'm not sure whether it's because my cat has absorbed this gospel message or the fact that the other critters are better sprinters than she!

The original and best version, that's for sure. Simple and effective. I don't think anyone needs to read any particular message from it, it's a nice, fun tale of imagination, a choir full of animals, beautiful!

Have heard the Porcupine story at Bill Staines concerts before, but that's just part of Bill's charm. Get a chance, go see this well seasoned performer at least once. The first might be the best, but the rest ain't bad either.

I learned that song from my kids being in preschool many moons past. I'm boosted, but got Covid last week and so also took Paxlovid (new antiviral) that just zapped all symptoms away w/in 2 days except my vocal range which a few days back was just "Doe Ray Mee". So everyday I've been singing songs with high and low notes and sending them as a joke to friends. As of today, it's almost back to norma so I did this one ... and then got curious about where it came from. Well, Bill, sorry you're gone, my kids loved this song and I still sing it hiking. Hope I can leave something as good as that as part of my legacy.

I forget where I heard this. I think on one of his records. Possibly some singer at the Cafe Extemp on Cedar Ave in MPLS, where he sang at one time or another, ages ago, when I was much younger and much nicer. I love it a lot. My friend Jerry Rau from MPLS. also knows him, and perhaps he sings the song too. A great song, I wish I had written it. It would be a one hit wonder, except Bill Staines wrote lots of wonderful hits.
