Superfoot Bill Wallace. So, here is a guy with a career ending injury while in Judo. Seriously. He takes that, and works around it into a unique style and became one of the best full contact kickboxers in the world at the time. Just amazing.

Let's take this one step further, he hppoed into a Karate dojo and said" I can't use this leg, can you still train me?" his new found master said,"yes, lineup. Ok, 1000 kicks left leg...after the 1000 kicks he said 100 kicks right leg. then looks at Bill and says, Not You. You stay on left leg" Imagine that as your first class? If I had been thrown that in high school, I would have been like "Challenge Accepted", but I started Karate in College and would have been like..."If a man can't walk to class, he will drop out of engineering like everyone else, must leave training with you for now...hmm what else can I do...Video game club, that looks safe"

I actually bought the whole set of VHS tapes. SO GLAD you uploaded this. I bought my granddaughter a used copy of his book Dynamic stretching and kicking, and now her and her brothers can watch the videos and see him doing it. SO YOU know, I talked to Joe Lewis 20 years back and he explained why Wallace reacted harshly when NORRIS, LEWIS, and Mike Stone were in his corner. Apparently someone rinsed his mouth piece with mouthwash, when they put it back in his mouth, because of micro abrasion and such in the mouth, it hurt. I had always wondered what happened, AND HE TOLD ME this story before I could even ask. I explained to him I saw him in the corner with Norris and Stone, and then he told me he had a funny story and explained what happened. SO COOL! BEST KICKERS IN THE WORLD 1980's. NO KICKS TO THE LEGS, NO ELBOWS OR KNEES, mandatory 8 kicks per round in the PKA. All they did was KICK, KICK and KICK. Remember Jerry Trimble? Jean Yves Theriault (my favorite fighter of all time). BIG BRAD HEFTON from Rockford Illinois, Rick Rufus came in with a whole new game. MAURICE SMITH - WKA, met him at an event in the Vegas Hilton, PKA vs WKA, needless to say Maurice and the others destroyed the legs and won easily against the PKA fighters. I remember watching Superfoots last pro fight on live tv, 21-0 if I remember right.

Mr Wallace is a true gentleman and a martial arts legend. A fantastic role model for our youth and a great ambassador for Martial Arts! He also happens to be a fantastic practitioner who has adapted his style to fit his body strengths and weaknesses. He has been doing this before Bruce Lee advised martial artists to adapt style to fit your individuality. I am 66yrs old and have been training since my mid-teens, Wing Chun, TKD and Shotokan but my personal secret for longevity, is that I went to India for a few years and studied Yoga. I do a 30min to 1 hr. yoga stretching, relaxation and breathing routine every morning, keeps me flexible and relaxed! From this comes speed and power!

Trained with him at a seminar in Thorne near Doncaster in England, kicked me in the face, brilliant !!!!! He was so bloody fast, his kicks were so fluid. And super powerful, power in kicks (and most strikes actually) comes from speed and if you don't think so 'throw' a bullet at someone see what damage it does. Really nice bloke too. If he came over to do another seminar i'd definitely go. .

A man who can execute a kick (ANY KICK) with proper form, technique, and balance. Not to mention ultimate flexibility. Unlike all the average, un-talented/un-skilled bums who are known as "Great fighters" and/or "Great Martial Artists" in the UFC and other MMA competitions. lol smh Please.

Well, just because someone is not into Martial Arts does not mean that they are not great fighters. If you think about it, the Martial Arts came from real fighting. Over the many years, allot f it has been watered down and made to be more of a show that a real "Martial Art". I do not look down upon anyone who has the guts to step into the octagon or ring. I was a bar room brawler before I was a martial artist and I can tell you that allot of "martial arts" would never work in a real fight. Thanks.

Jason Rutibager Also some of us more traditional style practitioners simply want nothing to do with cage/mma anything. We like to keep it old school, and belts give a sense of achievement, which is good for misguided teens/adults. MMA more just teaches you how to want to tear someones head off, we're not into that. In Taekwondo we train for peace and justice, among other things, not bloodsport.

My friend's kicks are somewhat similar, although he has a unique technique for the roundhouse kick, where he sort of throws his leg up at a painfully slow speed, honestly slower than a slow motion video, and then he sort of wildly grasps for anything to hold on to, in order to steady himself, like a door handle, the refrigerator, another person, his dog, etc., then he almost always falls over.

I love Bill Wallace. He is one of the coolest guys I ever encountered in my martial arts journeys. People may not realize he was the wrestling, Judo, boxing as well as Karate coach at Memphis State University. Believe me. His abilities are not limited to kicking. He competed in events where, grappling, throws and ground fighting were allowed. The only thing that is changed by mma is the unlimited time for ground fighting. Most tourneys that allowed scoring from the floor limited it from 5 to thirty seconds. So, when I fought Bill in an exhibition at the convention center in Nashville it was so much fun. You can read about the details in My Book Tang Soo Do: Self Defense Secret. But, I will share these tips: Circle to his left (blindside) Never stop moving your feet. The one moment when I stopped flatfooted was when "Superfoot" Hooked me between the eyes. I literally blinked and missed the whole kick. When my eyes opened all I saw was his kick bouncing off as my head was snapping back. But, the smartest thing I did was circle to his left, never stepping in front of his round kick. He can't chase you down with the hook kick moving backwards. But, with the roundhouse kick he can. I hung out with him for a week after the fight and helped out with several seminars before we drove to Memphis in a car Elvis had given him. He told me he had patterned his speed kicking style after another legend Mike Warren who he once defeated with an invisible kick to the head. Noone in the the building saw it except Mike Warren. The judges didn't react or see it until it was replayed on the new technology of the day called video.

Tend to almost agree (J Farrow). But only with the caveat that those blokes..I was around then- competing- that they would train as necessary to meet present MMA components of skill. I have no doubt all those you mentioned would be very successful in MMA as they were champions then and very determined fighters. Id also add that of those mentioned, Id pick 2 off the bat that given their skills then , say by 1975, would give any top fighter at present a big handful of worry now, and probably beat most of them also...because both Joe Lewis and Wallace were also very good grapplers, Lewis being *very strong* in addition. Urquidez also would have beat many MMA fighters today just with striking skills, in my opinion, and Id be tempted to add a few more from the 'golden age' that had tremendous striking skills and timing along with Urquidez in that respect, like Jeff Smith, Havanas, Howard Jackson, McCallum. In summary, champions then would probably be champions now, and likewise very good fighters now would probably also do well if they time travelled to the past..just my considered opinion of course.

TKD does have follow through, you just don't need it for tournaments! I have taught for 40 years and have always been taught or teach follow through. In a tournament you just need to score a point so in & out! Problem with schools now is they don't teach what it is all actually about. Everyone wants a trophy. No one wants the self-defense or knowledge of how a technique actually works or what it is capable of doing. Ask most students today what is the purpose of a kick and they can't tell you.
