Absolutely brilliant. He's got to be a natural treasure. Wish I could just meet and shake his hand and say "thank you Billy, for all the laughs"

I was born in Scotland but was raised in Australia, but I'm still Scottish at heart and sung this at my high school talent quest and won 1st for solo vocal performances and 1st for comedy. It's a good thing I didn't loose my Scottish accent.

Back in 1980 I lived on a horse ranch in California. My neighbor, who came from Scotland, introduced me to 8% homebrew and Billy Connolly. He had 4 vinyls of Billy and we'd drink homebrew, play records and laugh all night...

the 10 who disliked this song must never have lived in a snowy climate where high-top boots were the order of the day. Sure, they're not called wellingtons here, but boots are boots anywhere where they measure snow in feet-or meters. I heard this on Dr. Demento when I lived in Florida, but when I found myself in Minnesota I sang this quite a bit when I was out walking my dog in my boots.

In 1974, Scottish comedian Billy Connolly adopted a comical ode to the boot called "The Welly Boot Song" as his theme tune and it became one of his best-known songs. In 1976, satirist John Clarke's alter ego Fred Dagg reworked Connolly's song as "If it weren't for your Gumboots", and created a hit. wiki!

Kiwi Comment: i have to admit that Billy Connelly did this before Fred Dagg (AKA John Clarke) did his version, "If it weren't for your gumboots" by Fred Dagg and Diamond Lil. But the origins of this song is from the 1800's in the cotton mills of Britain and was called "If it Weren't for the Weavers"!

Gumboots they are wonderful, gumboots they are swell. They keep out the water, and keep in the smell. And when you're sitting around at home you can always tell when one of the Trevs has taken off their gumboots.if it weren't for your gumboots where would you be? You'd be in the hospital or infirmary. You'd have a case of the flu or even pluracy, if you didn't have your feet in your gumboots :) new zealand version :)
