Dig that little Manteca quote in there. I always appreciated Candido's melodic approach to conga playing. That's what distinguishes him from the rest.

Very musical. Some conga players play tons of 32notes etc and forget to solo musically. The solo and playing was tastefully and full of melodic solos etc. Really appreciate the music

It took me many years, but I am just now gaining much appreciation for Candido! Always have been a big Billy Taylor fan, and never really appreciated him, but I'm now beginning to truly understand that every member of the video plays a crucial part to the final product. I appreciate you so much JVG! You have definitely helped shape/foster my love for jazz at such a young age!! I'm going to share your vids wherever I can!

Taylor, but lovely melodies, he def, got latin chops on this one, gonna check him out thanks for educating me JV Guy!

@MrsRoman4eva. I watched this video and thought to myself Candido had gotten a little old by this time, but still sounds good. He was one of the first Cuban drummers who had learned how to interface well with American jazz players, Then as I scrolled down to the comments, I thought to myself, I'll bet some armchair quarterback found something wrong with this, and lo and behold, there you are, predictable.

BEGINNER!! He is responsible for starting a movement of independents and Melody on congas. Of course he’s almost 100 years now but in the 40s and 50s that was cool and ahead of his time. You need to learn about music, with all do respect !
