Sir, in the thermostat, won't the strip move upwards as when alpha A is greater than alpha B, L1 is greater than L2. at 12:02

Yes alfa a must be smaller than alpha 2 for that to happen

In thermostat I think the Alpha b is greater than Alpha a because in the case of Alpha a being greater than Alpha b the strip must be moving in upward direction..

A thermometer uses mercury because expansion of mercury on heating is very high. According to the temperature, the mercury expands and we get to see the amount to which it has expanded. This expansion can be measured to give us the temperature
