this assumes the fire is very near the strip, which is not always present. That's why it's usually manually activated

yeah i think you're right. at first i thought that the person thought that home fire alarms were typically heat detectors

almost no fire alarms are like this. bimetallic strips can be used as heat detectors, but no one has a bell, a small battery, and a bimetallic stip in a box as a fire alarm
