Gotta say that was the best "Buyer Beware" post I've ever seen!!! Not in the market for a Binson per se, but I do occasionally buy vintage music equipment. His advice, while specific to Binson, is applicable to really anything bought online. Just my two cents....

Thank you so much for an honest and interesting video. as a retired electronics engineer and musician. I bought one from Ebay and when collecting it was then shown its working. I think I was very lucky! it was a B2 and I stripped it and re-built it as a T7E. It works amazingly well. At least the drum and heads were in reasonable condition. I think I was very lucky in getting a pretty good one. Many thanks for a great video

Greetings from the UK. Back in the early 90s when I was 20 I wanted a Binson, thankfully my heart never ruled my head as I couldn't find one! I was able to find a Watkins copicat that served me well for I think about £20. I can't believe the prices a copicat is making now with that line lights up but can't test!

Thank you for the this. I have always wanted a Binson, and I probably make an impulsive buy if I were in the right situation.

Greetings and thanks for watching! It depends on the model and the market fluctuates some. Echorec 2s seem to draw around $3000 when restored.

Thanks for your reply. For the last ten years I‘ve been checking ebay on and off for an Echorec 2. Should have bought one when they were still in the 1000 range, but for a student, that‘s a lot of money... now i regret not investing haha

thanks for the insight -- I have witnessed arcs of light above the power supply thanks to crackled insulation and caps exploding on a 603 so, of course, I'd always be careful but: I was offered a 606 6-head unit a while ago with one head apparently causing problems (hum, treble loss etc.) so any idea what to keep an eye on?
@BrunswickAmplifier

The 606 is solid but the interconnect wire is prone to rot. Coax is ok. Also the electrolytics if original are garbage by now. Easy fixes.

Thank you very much for this valuable advice! I'm currently rewiring my PE603 TU - printed circuit board model - one hell of a headache! The original filament wires are not twisted - do I need to twist the new wires? What a shame about Binsons - such a beautiful piece of engineering let down badly by dreadful wire!!!

I think if your buying any old school tape delay you have to do your homework and be prepared to do at least some work to get it to a state that's userble,.youll have to be compitant just to do the maintenance..you should go into buying these as an investment in time and money anyway.

Hello cool video. I just got a binson fixed. Well partly. Some of the wires and motor checked. This guy refuses to adjust the heads because he says it takes forever. Anyway now I got it back and it works kinda. Is it possible to adjust the heads myself. Do you have a video maybe ? Thanks. Warren.
