10 things you should know about DNA replication THROUGH SONG
1) DNA replicates semiconservatively during the S phase.
2) Chromatin condenses into chromosomes by curling around histones during prophase of mitosis. note replication occurs EARLIER during the S phase
3) Replication starts at the "origin"
4) Helicase unwinds DNA at the Replication fork. Topoisomerase relaxes DNA. Single stranded binding protein prevents annealing.
5) DNA polymerase III adds to leading strand and lagging strand (5' to 3') starting from RNA primers.
6) Okazaki fragments are created on the lagging strand.
7) Polymerase I replaces the RNA primers with DNA nucleotides. The gaps are sealed by ligase.
8) During proofreading, polymerase does mismatch repair and nuclease does excision repair.
9)Telomeres protect the ends of chromosomes from deterioration by repeating a string of TTAGGG (in humans)
10) You're awesome.

Thanks Megha for singing! She is in the Johns Hopkins' Vocal Chords.
Today I do feel like replicating
Semiconservatively
Condense into a chromosome
By curling around my histones
Cause today I do feel like replicating (At the S phase)
I have all the information, all of the plans
That's why they need to copy my strands
It all starts at the origin
Helicase untwists the fork, it gives me some pain
Topoisomerase helps relieve this strain
SSBPs then bind to me
Oh then the primers, the primers
Bind at the 5' end
Today I do feel like replicating
Semiconservatively
Condense into a chromosome
By curling around my histones
Cause today I do feel like replicating (5' to 3)
Another enzyme DNA poly III
Adds to the leading strand continuously
Lagging strand you'll just have to wait (OMG OKAZAKI FRAGMENTS)
Then polymerase I
Primers 5' side
Replaces it with DNA nucleotides
Then the gaps are sealed by ligase
Oh yes I said it, I said it
Replicated cause I can
Today I do feel like replicating
But what's this I think I see mistakes
You say there's barely anything misspelled
But just one mistake for sickle cell
So now I got to do some proofreading (5' to 3)
Polymerase does mismatch repair
Nuclease in excision repair
No no no no no no no mistakes
Don't want my ends to be weird
Good thing for telomeres
Repeating TTAGGG yeah
Today I do feel like replicating
Semiconservatively
Condense into a chromosome
By curling around my histones
Cause today I do feel like replicating (At the S phase)
