Love all your Shorts. Have you tried other background methods, like cork tile or hygrolon? Which method have you found works best for climbing plants, like Ficus pumila “Quercifolia”?

Hi just come across your video you made it look easy iv foamed back ground but carved all my foam,was told to apply g4 pond sealer over foam then place substrate on top iv tried this but does not seem to be sticking any ideas what I can do,would be greatly appreciated

The substrate needs to be dry before application. Use black or brown aquarium safe silicone and patch up the needed areas.

Awesome! How many Cans would it take to do a 36x36 back ground
@bahamas6054

You can honestly just get by with one can…I recommend getting two cans though, with two you can cover the whole back and even more. For my leo, I did the back and the sides of his tank and attached rocks and went over the rocks with the foam to make naturalistic caves!

I wanted to know the same, I think so I did wait when I did this with the 12x12x12

@@LA-rc7cw Hi! Thank you😁 I actually finished my very first bioactive build yesterday. I used a fairly thick coat of silicone since I planned to use some heavier wood pieces- so the total cure time for me was roughly 72 hours! Then I followed up with the advised Great Stuff Pond and Stone and my decor. The following day (24hrs later), I had myself a beautiful and sturdy piece. 😁

Awesome!!! It's so hard to wait but it's totally worth having that long lasting effect in the end. I'm glad it turned out the way you wanted it to. @@LauraAllen11

Question? If the dirt doesn't stick to the spray foam, what would the best way to cover it be?

I've just completed my first backround but after knocking off the excess substrate I noticed a couple of obvious black spots where the substrate did not stick to the foam. What would be the best way to cover these spots?
@fallenart1520

Use more silicone on the spots that aren’t covered and sprinkle more of the sphagnum moss mixture over those areas, should solve the problem

How long should the foam cure before adding pets?

I like to let my builds grow out for at least a month before adding any pets. It gives time for the plants to grow and establish.

Do I have to use a abg mix or can I use my own substrate for bioactive. It has peatmoss, play sand and top soil ego earth
@pattycakes1146
11 ай бұрын
Depends on what kind of plants you want. Mine is for more tropical dry plants so my substrates consisted of: Reptibark to help with airflow and overwatering, an organic top soil, peat moss and sphagnum moss crushed up and mixed in with the soil mix, and horticultural charcoal. IMO it’s cheaper to buy a premixed ABg substrate and just add bits to it. I really like the bio dudes terra fauna mix with added charcoal, and added reptibark. I also use an organic fertilizer from him that is animal safe and it stinks for a bit. My vivarium is a set up for a crested gecko so I only have three plants in the bottom. I use the reptile bark help with airflow throughout the tank to prevent mold, and also my isopods and springtails eat it, so it provides nourishment for them.

Not necessarily, as long as it’s fish and reptile safe! Just a quick google search of the the expanding foam you wanna use should tell you if it’s safe or not
