Biography on Louis II De Bourbon-Condé: Louis II De Bourbon, Prince of Condé, and Duke of Enghien, was born in Paris, September 7, 1621 and died at the Château de Fontainebleau on December 11, 1686. He was called the Great Condé by Louis XIV, and was a French military genius, one of the most able generals of the 17th century. Louis II was a descendant of the House of Bourbon-Condé. At the age of 25 he inherited the titles of governor of Picardy and Burgundy; Duke of Montmorency, Pair of France and Prince of Condé. He was related to the French king Louis XIII and was a prince of the blood.
De Condé was an opponent of Cardinal Mazarin, and led the Fronde. He was a central figure in the struggle between the Spanish and French crowns that raged in the mid-17th century, when Louis XIV was still a minor.
