Mark, I’m legitimately impressed by the amount of work that goes into all of your videos. I have no idea how you find the time, but this video is phenomenal.

Loved the video, just subscribed. I saw your channel featured on Salt's page and am so glad that I did. I have a hard time with most videogame-video-essay channels, usually meaning that I stick to Joseph Anderson, Salt factory, Matthewmatosis, but your content is truly top tier. Excited for more 👍

That was such a great exploration of the game. It's true that longer-format videos can be harder to watch since it can be difficult to find the time. But man do I love to hear you talk about each and every game you pick.

Great work as usual, man. And I assume your next video would be about... a certain section of a city, named after a roman goddess?

Well sir that was wonderful. Believe it or not I've tried to play this game a few times and never finished it. I remember the first time I played it on my Xbox 360 and after the plane crash I was waiting for some camera fade to happen before the in game graphics started. I was completely blown away when I realized the game had already started. We're gonna have to talk about how you do your research and come up with what areas you choose to tackle in your videos. I too am thinking of changing up my formulae after I've done my next couple of videos although I may be going the other way in terms of length. I think it's totally cool to experiment though, this is still for play after all. Much love and respect bro.

Let's start with how in the hell did this video only get 680 Views at time of viewing. This game is still relevant and amazing. People talk about it all the time. Great quality video I love it man. Fort Frolic truly is something special.

Stoked to see the results of your upcoming experiment! I found BioShock okay, but had expected it to live up to the System Shock series. For my money, the level of player choice in approaches didn't measure up to it's processors (appropriate, given the twist near the end) and the combat didn't feel as good. System Shock had a good causality in the stuff you had to deal with, too. "Space, but evil AI" logically leads to hacked security systems and cyborgs and mad science experiments on unwilling victims. "Objectivism, but underwater" maybe gives us the monsters men become when isolated from outside repercussions, but there's magic DNA juice boxes and scuba zombie babysitters and brainwashing and.... it's so much, it doesn't feel organic at all. I also hated the end (I got the good ending : like you said, there's not really a reason not to go that route). It's set years in the future, back on land, which ruins all of the impact from the whole bit right before the big dumb endgame boss fight. (Trying not to put out spoilers) Re : The firefighting analogy halfway through- Firefighting as a profession was started as a capital-acquiring endeavor, and only adopted as a public service much later after the bugs all got worked out. From Wikipedia's History of Firefighting : "The first ever Roman fire brigade was created by Marcus Licinius Crassus. He took advantage of the fact that Rome had no fire department, by creating his own brigade-500 men strong-which rushed to burning buildings at the first cry of alarm. Upon arriving at the scene, however, the firefighters did nothing while Crassus offered to buy the burning building from the distressed property owner, at a miserable price. If the owner agreed to sell the property, his men would put out the fire, if the owner refused, then they would simply let the structure burn to the ground." Sorry for the novel. Enjoyed the review, excited to see what comes next!

Thanks Sean, and no worries, your comments are a joy to read. Super insightful comment, as always. I had no idea about firefighting being a subscription-based service at first and you're absolutely right about the disconnect between Bioshock's themes, level design, setting and moment to moment gameplay. Now that you mention it, yeah, it's pretty fucking jarring. I liked the good ending because I'm a sucker for sappy story conclusions when they are done right, and in the case of Bioshock, I think Irrational did the best they could given the publisher's intervention. What annoys me is that if you, say, save all the little sisters and kill 1 (one) you get a variation of the bad ending. The game doesn't offer you a chance to redeem yourself in any way - which kinda sucks, but being a linear game, I guess such quirks come with the territory

nice job dude. Bioshock is a game i feel like i should like more than i do. all 3 of them. I hate Infinite, but think the story is so good it's worth playing no matter what... bioshock 1 has jank combat but good use of light RPG elements and Bioshock 2 is the most fun but kinda strips away all the RPG elements Mass Effect 2 style. yes i'm the Bioshock 2 is the best one guy just like in Dark souls keep it up!
