A small block of acrylic is attached to the adjustable base, which moves and fixes the adjustable base. The long block serves to unzip and tighten the extension

If you are not a bird mouse joint and just glue up each part with an angle, it will not be a strong bond and it's hard to clamping,

It is the special router bit used to cut the gluing angles in the wood. It makes the shape of a bird mouth and helps the wood pieces fit together for added strength and clamping ease. Search “bird mouth router bit”, very cool idea.
