Cockatiel would be fun to photograph this winter but unfortunately a vacation to Australia isn't in the budget.

Any birds in Cuba when I escape the Ottawa winter!!😆 lol!!! But locally if I can get a close image of a Harlequin duck I will be happy. The last few years one has been showing up in the winter and sticking around.

After shooting on cold days, do you remove your storage cards from the camera before putting it into your sealed bag? This way, you can start downloading the images while the camera and lens are acclimating.

Yes, I do and you can also take the batteries off if you recharge your batteries with a charger. So you don't have to wait for charged batteries.

Great tips, Emilie, thank you! Where did you get that gigantic bag? Looks perfect! And do you have any women's cold-weather boot recommendations?
@EmilieT

You can get such bags at any big stores. They are used for storing sports gear or clothes. For boots, the warmest I have are my Mukluk boots. They are expensive but you will have them for a really long time.

Heated glove liners are a lifesaver. I put them inside of mittens that allow any finger tips I need to be exposed.

Bonjour Emilie, I am located a bit further north and gloves are a big issue. I just can't find something that keeps my hands warm and gives me the movement I need for my fingers...plus I can't wear Marino, even the best quality (yup that sensitive). Any suggestions?? Great tips as well.

Bonjour Peter! Keeping your hands warm is really the hardest. The only thing that works for me is layers and keeping heat warmers inside my gloves. For layers, you might have to turn to synthetic products unfortunately or maybe alpaca base layer if you can tolerate it.

Vallerret makes some nice gloves for photographers. They might have a pair which will suit your needs. Worth a look anyway.

Thanks for the tips. Nice photos. Me, I’ll probably try for the duck & shorebird types (coastal NJ) with a little of whatever might come in front of me while doing a woodland walk. Couple of questions. Where did you get a ziplock that big & the 150-400mm lens, is it 150-400 or a 300-800mm equivalent? Thank you for any replies.
@EmilieT

@@thomastuorto9929 Thank you for your questions. They sell bigger ziploc bag in big retail stores. Just look for XL bags where you can store sports gear or clothes. I shoot micro 4/3 so my 150/400 is the MM Equivalent Focal Length of 300-800 but this lens does have a built-in 1.25x teleconverter so if you switch it on, it is the MM Equivalent Focal Length of 300-1000.

Her first tip was not about bird photography, it was about clothing. Her second tip was about equipment - not about birds. Her third tip was about exposure compensation - not birds. Her fourth tip was about focus modes - not birds. Her fifth tip was about finding locations of birds - not photographing birds. In my opinion a very lousy video that told us everything except photographing birds.
