Those Broadview editions are expensive but you often get so much other material in addition to the novel, I think you were the one who put me onto them Elizabeth. I read Romantic Outlaws this year and loved it so much, I’m sure you will too. When I was in college, many moons ago, we read quite a bit of eighteenth century literature so I’ve read Tom Jones, Robinson Crusoe and Tristan Shandy but would be interested in rereading them some day to see how I feel about them now. 🤔

They are definitely pricey, but worth it. I always buy them used if I can, but sometimes that just doesn't happen. Did you like those ones when you first read them?

Happy birthday! I really enjoyed the Vicar of Wakefield - it was a pleasant and fast read. Crusoe is not my favourite, I'm curious to hear what you think when you get to it!

Great haul! I went through a phase of reading some 18th literature decades ago. Tom Jones is a wild romp, for sure. I really enjoyed Tristram Shandy for its pure weirdness. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on everything!

Happy belated birthday! I tried to read both A Simple Story and The Vicar of Wakefield on audiobook for Jane Austen July and I DNFed both 🤦🏼♀️. But I think the problem was the format and not the books themselves so I'm willing to try them on ebook some other time. It's so exciting to hear about a new reading project for next year! I'm doing some future plans myself, I'd like to reread all the main six novels by Jane Austen in the first semester of 2025 and I'm also doing some preliminary research for a project about portrayals of jewish characters in Victorian literature I want to do. BTW, I'm open to suggestions on this one 😂

Thank you! I can never read classics on audiobook. It just doesn't work for me. Some suggestions for portrayals of Jewish characters in Victorian literature: for ones by actual Jewish writers, The Children of the Ghetto by Israel Zangwill (a very interesting read) and Reuben Sachs by Amy Levy (which I haven't read but want to). By non-Jewish writers, Daniel Deronda by George Eliot (❤) and, for an incredibly negative portrayal, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Those are the only ones I can think of right now.
