At this liminal period of Methodism, there is a lot to prayerfully consider. I have been forthright in my desire to somewhat radically revise the culture of Methodism to expect a much higher degree of transparency, especially from leadership. This came into contradistinction yesterday with the setup that is in the process of being designed to introduce episcopal candidates to the people of the GMC. I wanted to take time to explain why it is that I think this is an issue that should be addressed openly. I am under the impression that this level of transparency is something that a large number of people are yearning for. I think a lot of leadership in the GMC wants it to go this way too, but they know they are pushing against the prevailing ethos. I don't know if I will be effective in shifting the culture of the GMC. I just knew I wanted for folks to think through this with me rather than react. I'll make sure to check the comments on this one for thoughtful feedback. As always, if I learn new things that change the ethics of this situation, I'll publicly recant.
