Ahahah i had to go and search for this comment after his last video where he makes some confusing remarks about a striking guy who doesn't know bjj in rewgards to this comment. Did he think this was an insult rather than a compliment? :D
@MrPosk
6 жыл бұрын
I think BJJscouts point was that the comment sections of his more regular, 'hardcore' pieces are much more sane than the McG study and was actually using this as an example of how popular MMA technique writers value his work. I took the ''hater rebuttal" caption as just scout trying to get ahead of the predicted response that screencap would provoke. Not gonna lie though, I came here just to check if there was some slack/scout beef too.
@36424567254

I doubt there's any beef, i've always heard Slack talk great about BJJScout, but it just seemed like Scout had somehow misinterpreted the comment. But your reading might make more sense. Besides, doesn't Slack practice BJJ too? I kind of remember he mentioning it at some point.

Very nice breakdown of (half-)butterfly with the gi! In nogi grappling butterfly seems to be way more popular these days. Especially the Renzo/Danaher guys are using it as their main guard, as it is super powerful for setting up leglocks, while keeping your own legs/ankles protected. I was fortunate enough to roll with Oliver Taza a few days ago and once he got half-butterfly on me, it was curtains! Would love for you to keep expanding this study into the nogi realm and the DDS particularly. Your work is super valuable, thanks so much for sharing!

I don't understand why the UFC had you pull your content. You're one of the few content creators that can actually educate and improve people's understanding of MMA and grappling in general. If anything they should have put you on the payroll - short-sighted of them to mess with your work. Keep it up!!

I have been using this guard since i started jiu jitsu, my coach told me this guard (butterfly) is for you and 6 years later as a purple belt i can sweep mostly anyone with the butterfly guard. Thank you for sharing this! Ps the reason my coach told me that this guard would be perfect for me was for the reason that im missing my left arm, it took a lot of trial and error but this guard has worked wonders on my jiu jitsu.

I notice from his 2017 Worlds matches that he uses RDLR with one leg and shin to shin with the other leg to get the opponent's knee to the ground. Then the RDLR becomes the grapevine and staples their leg to the ground. Then the butterfly hook comes in. Very cool.

Great as always! I find it interesting that alot of Marcelo Garcia's early instruction focuses on the grapevine insertion from the outside. Whereas, Wardzinski is inserting with the opposite leg, from the inside of the leg. Great stuff!

Great breakdown as always, but at the 6:00 mark you say to "extend the grapevine to take out the passer's base". I have to disagree with that, it's actually the passer who is extending his leg to break the hook (grapevine) and Adam is just following it.
@McWi11iams

Thank you for pointing this out. I've been having a really hard time extending their leg with the grapevine. It makes since that the opponent is extending their leg to break the hook

Super surprised there is no mention of the role of butterfly guard in no gi, and in particular Eddie Cummings, since plays a very similar guard but chains attacks off of it constantly and has never had his guard passed in competition (I don't know enough about Adam to say if that's true for him or not). Maybe it's covered in part 2? On to part two!
