The single leg takedown is my personal favorite when it comes to takedowns using the legs. I can cut angles so I'm not directly against the person's power and it's incredibly effective. I've favored it as far back as high school.
Doing the single leg in BJJ can be difficult though. Especially when it comes to the gi. People can latch onto grips with the gi and fighting through the grips can be incredibly difficult. Often times good wrestlers who get into BJJ with no grip fighting ability are slowed down by the grips or completely stopped in some cases.
Over the years in BJJ training I've always tried finding ways to use the wrestling takedowns I prefer with the gi. To make my wrestling more effective in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. I've trained with Judoka just to learn better grip fighting and I've adapted that grip fighting to my BJJ game. Seriously, grip fighting in BJJ is something you should be working every week. It's tricky and it's a hybrid sort of style. But if you understand how the grips work and how to work around them. Getting single legs and double legs in Brazilian Jiujitsu with the gi aren't that difficult. You just have to be a little more patient.

In this video I show 2 single leg takedown setups for Brazilian Jiujitsu in the gi. One for each side of the person's body.
As I'll explain in the video. You don't want to be stuck to attacking only one side. You want to have takedown options to both. So this way, no matter what side they are dominant to, you have options. You move to your opponent's inherent weakness rather than fight against it.
In the video I touch on the basic straight forward collar and elbow grip that most people run into when it comes to rolling or competition on the feet.
In addition, I tried to make sure to have an option for some of you with bad knees or those of you who aren't comfortable dropping to your knees yet.
