Thank you so much for the flip through. It was very helpful to see and get an idea if it’s the best fit for my family. With that being said, you mentioned how you’re using all about reading program and I was wondering can you do a comparison with this program and with all about reading?! I have one child and we are starting kindergarten this year and when I say I already went down every rabbit hole of curriculum’s lol I did, and some of them are very pricey. If I were to get this whole set ( focus on five ) it’s not that bad at all compared to the others!! ( sonlight, Bookshark, abeka, Singapore, math u see, all about reading isn’t bad price but they don’t have a full curriculum) I can on and on with differnt ones lol. So, with that being said, I was going to do the language arts phonics program with Sonlight, because they do have the language arts, the reading, the writing, the spelling, the grammer plus the added readers to go with the phonics, and it’s kind of the same price as all about reading, so I’m trying to debate what area I should do for Language arts and reading. then I came across BJU and they seem to be very affordable tbh for a whole curriculum well at least compared to others lol. So how do u compare Bju reading program with all about reading ? Thank you again!

Hello, I have never used their reading program. So I would not be able to compare. The only thing I got from focus on 5 were these workbooks. I know BJU does use a lot of teacher guides and hands on things such as visuals and extra stuff you need to print beforehand so it’s not very open and go. I think for your first year homeschooling you should try something with less things to prepare so you can get your feet wet. I think AAR is so much more easier to the parent. Less stuff to prepare beforehand and also it teaches reading using different styles that is good for visual and kinesthetic learners. You can try to buy the curriculum used to save money. By going on facebook marketplace, ebay and mercari.

What I recommend if your child already has mastered their letter sounds and alphabet recognition, do AAR level 1, use BJU math k (just the workbook) you dont need a teachers guide to teach kindergarten math. And then get some handwriting workbook. You can find a ton of them on amazon for under $15. At this age use your childs interest to direct all the EXTRA stuff you would like to incorporate. Such as history, geography and science. Regular school children at this grade don’t do any history or science but if your child is interested in those subjects and that’s something you can incorporate, you can easily buy workbooks that’s for their grade that have the subjects on Amazon that are very economic.
