By the time we got to the switchbacks we had caught up to a convoy of Jeepers that were backing up the flow, we opted to not take any film of that. But it involves lots of multi-point turns in each of the corners... totally doable, and fun at that.

We’ve watched this so many times I’ve lost count, absolute masterpiece! Wanted to let you know the music did not come on until about 10 minutes in and cut out later, then came back on. We have a 55” Samsung 4K that we have watched this video on and it is mesmerizing. My wife and I just bought a CanAm Maverick X3 XDS Max and are planning a trip this summer to that area to run all the trails we can. When we watch your video we always say throughout it, at different points, “We’re GOING THERE!” The Telluride and Ouray Chamber of Commerce, if it exists, should employ you guys for promoting tourism. Please keep posting your work.

Jeff 'n Dorry W we were in a Dodge 3500 so you should be solid... just be mindful of the switchbacks, and your respective space on them. A forum I post on said there is actually a company in the area that runs full-size rigs on this trail frequently, so it's not even out of the ordinary... go for it, and enjoy the beauty... it's almost that time of year!!!

I believe I landed and changed batteries one time. bif roberts this was done from the cab controlled by the DJI sticks and a Note 4... unbeknownst to us at the time, the DJI UI actually has pretty sophisticated tracking modes that would have also been great... but if you see a bump in the filming... it's because we hit a bigger bump real-time... hahaha.. learning as we go!!!

Best Black Bear video on the web!!! Secomd to none!!! The aerial shots are just stunning. Were you driving and flying the drone at the same time or was someone flying the drone for you? Is this a Mavic Pro? How many batteries did you use for this shooting? I have a Mavic Pro and plan to run Imogene pass in my 2012 Infiniti QX56 and do something similar like this. I am thinking of attempting Black Bear, but not sure yet. But if I was there in August where it looks so dry in your video, I would probably do it
@MASSExpedition
6 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) I was in the passenger seat for this one, while my buddy drove the 3500. This was a Mavic Pro, flown using pure controls (no active tracking/intelligent flight mode) and going through (2) batteries... we actually got about 40 minutes out of one battery on this trip, which is unheard of, and the best flighttime I've ever had. Not sure if that was the temperature, elevation, or what factor led to that. I was shocked... I think you'd be fine in any vehicle you are comfortable driving that has proper clearance and power to the wheels :)

Is it ok to do this trail alone? I live in Denver and love taking my jeep up to go 4 wheeling. I hear its not that hard of a trail. any advice on just doing it alone and time of year?
@MASSExpedition
5 жыл бұрын
I would imagine after May when the snowfall melts you'll be perfectly fine, as this was a relatively high volume of traffic along the road... you won't be too far from assistance, should you need it. But in a Jeep you'd be solid, I believe. But I recommend to bring a friend just to share the experience with! :)

I did Engineer pass and Cinnamon pass in 2016 in my stock 2015 Ram 1500 Crew Cab Ecodiesel 4X4. I didn't have any problems whatsoever on those trails. I would like to do Black Bear in the same truck this year. The switchbacks just before Bridal Veil Falls looks to me to be the most difficult section of the entire route. Would you foresee any issues, with me being an experienced driver, attempting this trail in my truck?
@MASSExpedition

The switchbacks require attention, but should be completely doable in your vehicle... they are also some of the most scenic. I think you should go for it!! Share some cool videos of it with us when you do!

From the Forest Service (The Steps are ~26:15): While most of the road is moderate in difficulty. the mile-long stretch of steep switchbacks on the Telluride side above Bridal Veil Falls is rated as difficult. A high clearance, short wheel base, four wheel drive vehicle is strongly recommended for this section of the road. The road starts from State Highway 550 at Red Mountain Pass (signed as Forest Road #823) and climbs quickly to Black Bear Pass at 3.2 miles. There is ample room for parking at the Pass where there are views into Ingram Basin. The road then descends into Ingram Basin, past Ingram Lake and the Black Bear Mine. At approx. 5.6 miles the road begins descending the "Steps" which are comprised of a series of steep, technical rock steps. From this point down to the Bridal Veil Powerplant (approx 1 mile), the road is one-way only. Once down the "Steps", the road continues past Ingram Falls, making extremely tight, narrow switchbacks until it reaches the Bridal Veil Falls Powerplant. Open to all motorized vehicles, however, recommended for high clearance, short wheel base, 4-wheel drive vehicles. A one-mile segment of the road (starting at approx. mile point 5.6) is one-way, downhill only.
