black butte is not what it once was, in buckhorn campground is now filled with loud people all night long, buckhorn once had a free camping area, it was quiet and peaceful mind you this was over 20 years ago now everybody takes the campsites close to the bathrooms, very loud all night long.

Hardly anyone there in April when we visited but I guess that is off season for most vacationers.

When my boys were younger we spent almost every weekend at Black Butte , either water skiing or fishing up in the willows . In those days it was wide open and free , we use to camp right on the beach just north east of the boat ramp at Buckhorn on the point. You saw the area at the right time because there is no green later on in the summer and you can set your watch by the wind that comes up every day at 2:00 PM . Those were some good times , thanks for bringing back some memories . Safe travels and happy boating !

Looks beautiful there, I have a question for you Ray I'm thinking I probably need a soft start on my air conditioner, do you have a video on how to install one of those?

Thanks for the tour. I usually do my best to get south of Sacramento early in the day to avoid traffic when heading South. I as well tow a 30' trailer so I appreciate the 'pre-flight'. I get a little concerned going into some of these spots and getting into some difficult situations. (the background music by Will Harrison is great as well!)

We are making our back way up from Florida with a Ram 3500 Cummins-Aisin rig.. interested to know what kind of mileage you get when towing at Interstate speeds? I think we are around 23L/100.. Do you have the larger tank?
@LoveYourRV

I've never calculated with liters, so you can do the conversion. I have the 32 gallon tank. Between 10.5 and 13.5 MPG, as low as 10.5 pulling steep mountain passes or into strong headwinds, as high as 13.5 if low wind and flat interstate, and speed around 62-65 MPH. Usually, for a trip south and back to BC, I average about 11.5 since there are lots mountains out west. Trailer weights about 10,000 and truck 9,000 when loaded up for the trip and full water tank. Rear end gears are 3.42 ratio. Cheers, Ray

@@LoveYourRV Converts to approx 17.4 to 22.4L.. I’m towing similar weight, but have the dually version with the higher gear ratio, so that probably accounts for the higher consumption overall… I’ve found the 32 gallon tank is small enough to be a frequent fillup pain on longer travel days, and have had to use Gerry cans to get though limited services areas like highway 11 in northern Ontario… looking at some other solutions…

My wife doesn't like long travel days so we mostly do 200 miles or less. Lot of diesel stations out west so the 32 gallon tank has been plenty. The 3.42 gear ratio has worked out nice since the Aisin 1 and 2 gears are so low geared the trailer still gets off the mark easily but in 6th my rpm stays in the 1500-1600 range even at 60-70 miles per hour. I can get over 20 MPG when not towing. Often times on curvy, hilly highways I'll even lock out 6th and use 5th as the top gear to get a little more slowing power from the exhaust brake. Trade off is I could never go to a really large trailer or heavy truck camper like a dually can handle. My combined gross max weight is 25,600 and payload just under 4000 lbs.

Thanks for telling us the date of the tour. I really appreciate knowing when a video was shot for planning trips to specific locations. Oak tree trimming is constantly needed. They grow downward, and there is never enough funds for tree trimming.

Not yet, thankfully it has been acting up very much during this trip. But I'm thinking there is hope I may be able to fix it myself. Looks like it may be just sticky brushes in a motor. What a nice area. Thanks for the tour, Ray. How long til you move into the boat and start your summer season again? It must be too early right now. I hope when you do head out, all goes beautifully and the mammals come to call.

No, it's still stock. Didn't want to change anything while it was under the 5 year Cummins warranty.
