Black goo a sticky black substance and scaling are accumulating in some landfill leachate and gas collection systems across the nation. Both cause clogging that adversely affects the management and extraction of leachate and gas; increasing maintenance costs. These five SCS Engineers and Field Staff discuss landfill conditions from the west to east coasts describing conditions and what seems to be helping to minimize or treat goo or scaling. As we know, every landfill is unique; what works in one may not work in another - so we also cover the science. There is still much to learn, but working together as an industry we feel we will make faster progress.
The University of Wisconsin funded by an EREF grant is researching goo - information is included in this video if you would like to participate in the research.
