Taylor is nothing if not a poet. She definitely has bars. Even her more "generic" songs are cleverly constructed, if you pay attention to the lyrics and how the songs are put together. What’s so crazy about Folklore and Evermore is that they were completely unplanned albums. She was supposed to be touring that year but COVID happened. She made folklore in about 3-4 months then 5 months later she dropped Evermore both complete surprise drops with no warning. Folklore got her, her 3rd album of the year win. Albums that would have never happened without COVID. Seven is a top 5 song of her whole discography for me. It about child like innocence and naivity. A time where you could do whatever you want as a child with no worries and being free

I think Folklore being album of the year was a stretch--and an acknowledgment almost of "oopsie, so sorry about that whole trashing your Reputation thing," which is going to go down as a top 5 DISCOGRAPHY entry! That said, I'm betting we would've gotten tour/break up sooner without the pandemic. Instead, she wrote the break up songs first this time!

the song "last great american dynasty" is actually a real story!!! she wrote it about the woman who owned "holiday house" (a house in watch hill, Rhode island) her name was rebekah harkness and after her husband died she threw a lot of partys and her neighbours, who were either familys or old rich men (the average cost of a house there is 2,3 million right now), felt disturbed. after taylor bought the house in 2013 for almost 18 million she was in her early-mid 20s and threw a lot of partys with famous people. a few years later the kim/snake thing happened and she was known as the annoying girl that always plays the victim. as we know rebekah was also described as mad and crazy. taylor related to that so she wrote a song :)

A lot of Taylor swifts music is not always autobiographical. Especially her recent projects that are mostly based off her imagination or inspiration from books/movies she has seen. So don’t be surprised with a lot of complex stuff in these songs. She isn’t going through all dat 😂😂
@NatalieLarson-l9w

Cardigan, Betty and August are the same story from three views. James was with Betty but he leaves her for a summer fling with Augustine. Cardigan is Betty looking back on the whole situation years later. Betty is James coming back to Betty at the end of the summer. August is Augustine remembering her summer with James. Hopefully that makes sense? ALSO the last great american dynasty is the history of the people who were in the rhode island house she now owns. She bought holiday house and the song is about the history of Rebekah, the woman who lived there before her.

Love watching you. Notes about The Last Great American Dynasty. It is a true story about Rebekah Harkness who owned the home “Holiday House” in Rhode Island that Taylor purchased a decade ago. Rebekah married William Harkness, a Standard Oil heir. He died and this song tells the story of her life, their marriage, what happened after his death and how she blew the inheritance. It is a really incredible story. She put a lot of money into starting her own ballet company, throwing parties, playing cards with Salvador Dali, etc.

The fun thing is that the last great American dynasty is actually about a real old actress and yes she stumbled upon her Holiday House and bought it irl.
