Just wanted to clear up an extreme oversight in the information in this video, the flashlight in HL1 does absolutely NOT drain your suit power. It's so weird, in the Hazard Course the hologram lady does say that it drains power, but doesn't expand upon that and it's hard to tell how much battery the flashlight actually has. Am I seriously the only person to realise that your crouching slide when combined with the long jump module, produces the ability to surf on flat land? Curving your momentum even works the same way as it does when playing surf. This was the best part of Xen if you ask me. All those naturally curved formations and open spaces. Matching Gonarch's charging speed while looking right at it and firing rockets in its nads, making sure to not stand up and cancel my momentum? One of the most engaging boss battles I'd done in a long time, with my only complaint being that it was never obvious enough whether you were actually hurting the damn thing. The gargantua escape is also complimented by surfing via its downhill slopes.

PurpleColonel seems to have a pang of disdain for your video, but aside from a couple of errors, you've got a solid assessment. Plenty of discussion for me to sink into when I launch my own assessment.

I mean, Valve, they are winning money, from someone else's work, and keeping their IP relevant at the same time! It's just great for them. I wish more companies realized that it works.

Playing this before the original would be a big mistake IMO. You can't truly appreciate the graphics and changes without experiencing the original first. Also all of those complaints about not knowing where to go will be gone except for the Xen levels. They are completely different now and interloper can be quite confusing the first time.

10:30 Goddamnit Nerrel! I just got out of this tube and I was gonna start 6th Sense! Well at least I still have the Phantom Menace - now there's a franchise that'll last forever! Who is J. J... A-Brahms...

Personally I'm not a fan of how the more colorful and saturated look of Black Mesa (the game) saps some of the cold, industrial feel out of the environments. Black Mesa (the location) is supposed to feel like an inescapable tomb, it should be as unwelcoming as possible.

It takes a lot of wit and forethought to be able to say things a long time die hard Half-Life such as myself would agree with, especially when talking about subjective things like gameplay tinkering. As always, it goes to show just how excellent you are at writing these videos of yours.

I just don't understand why he took it so easy with interloper, was he afraid to be too harsh or did they update that chapter?

I DONT think black mesa is the game to start on when it comes to half life, since there is a lot of nuance to the physics and just how the game normally feels between the two games. To me, *Black Mesa felt like a clausterphobic HL2 game* (In the earth sections). While Half Life feels like quake in a way. Not saying BM is a bad remake or anything, But I do not think that a newbie cant appreciate what BM is giving them if they havent at least played HL1&2.

I'm currently playing Black Mesa and while I'm enjoying it and loving almost every aspect of it, I don't feel like this is a replacement of the original one. Half Life was truly revolutionary for it's time, and it aged pretty well, specially with the new anniversary updates it received, but it has a different pace and charm than Black Mesa, to the point that Black Mesa doesn't feel "better" it just feels like a truly amazing project made by people who loved the franchise, but not better or worse
