Just wanna say thank you for this series and I'm glad you're continuing it. Your channel (and especially this series) was what helped get me into black metal. I've since discovered a myriad of great albums I never would have know existed.

Great video! Dark Medieval Times is without a doubt in my top 3 of favorite black metal albums. I saw them at the Copenhell festival. As soon as they walked on stage and started playing, it felt like you were being hit by a massive blizzard in the face. Just amazing! One of the best concerts I've ever been to in a long time.

I always think this album's THE landmark of black metal. The sound of the whole thing has always been so chilly, dark and raw music and production, it's one of these metal albums that draws me in completely. Heavily intense and powerful stuff and I don't think there's no other black metal album that can top this.

Great video, love Satyricon - one of the bands that got me into Black Metal along with Dark Funeral and Emperor. By the way, check out Supplicium from France, namely their debut Magna Atra Missa! If you like early Watain, you will absolutely love Supplicium, because their debut is one pitch-black hellish album!

In my eyes, this and The Shadowthrone are some of the most legit black metal staples out there. Critically underrated.

Would you considering doing the essential series for other genres? I feel like it would be interesting to hear your favorite albums within the less popular subgenres, like Grindcore Essentials, etc. Just an idea, keep up the good work!

Dissection and Death are both tied as my favorite band of all time. Dissections "The Somberlain" and Death's "Spiritual Healing" have to be the two albums I would say influenced me massively. But now THIS album. This was the first black metal album I have ever heard, and honestly Its so hard for me to say it isn't my favorite. Out of all of my CDs, this has to be the one I listen to the most. Not because it was one of my first BM albums, but because of how fucking perfect the album is. It never gets old and every single song is done so well. It captures the atmosphere perfectly too. I have it on nearly every day before I sleep, or whenever it snows.

@@metalforever12085 Good choice. Although now Limbonic Art has replaced Death. So Limbonic Art and Dissection are my favorites. This album, Moon In The Scorpio, and still "Somberlain" are all my top 3 favorite albums of all time.

One of the finest black metal records of the 90s without a doubt, truly original and groundbreaking. However, I also thought the opening sample on Walk The Path Of Sorrow sounded like an 1940s Disney cartoon. Not a gripe, I think it sounds amazing :)

Ulver's Bergtatt also had Flute and Acoustic Guitars. Also, I don't understand how it's cheesy for Folk Metal bands to have flutes. That's part of them being Folk Metal.

Shawn Blagorath, your voice sounds funny, when you try to sound compressed low pitched talking. I like it however, it's a good way of telling your stories. Or maybe you are just with the flu all the time, weather can be pretty rough in upstate NY. :)
