Platinum streaming duo Black Motion release 'Ngoma' featuring Mazet SA with Osaze and Dr Moruti.
“We wanted to feature new talent on Ngoma and went through an incredibly rewarding process to have Mazet SA feature on this very special track. Mazet ZA completely immersed herself in the tracks narrative and captured Ngoma’s soul, essence and spirit perfectly. We wanted a fresh feel on Ngoma musically, and to unearth new vocal talent. Osaze brings the heat and is a major talent that many don’t know (although being in the game for a long time!). We wanted to shine a light on that and have him collaborate with us on the track. Dr Moruti needs no introduction and it feels good to reconnect with him after such a long time. He brought his genius touch to so many of our previous releases and we’re truly thankful that he joined us on Ngoma...” - Black Motion
Black Motion is a South African electronic duo known for blending house music with lively indigenous percussion as well as multilingual vocals with an array of guests from South Africa’s thriving dance music community. Their 2011 debut ‘Talking to the Drums’ established the duo as leading purveyors of the burgeoning South African house scene and over the coming years Black Motion found international success and support, charting a diverse course that held the pulse of the dance world while rooting itself in the myriad cultures of their native land with SAMA Award-winning albums “The Healers: The Last Chapter” (2020) and ’Ya Badimo’ (2016).
Made up of DJ / Producer Robert Bongani Mohosana and percussionist Thabo "Smol" Mabogwane, the pair collaborated in the town of Soshanguve, north of Pretoria. Both musicians came of age during the house music boom of the '90s and when they formed Black Motion in 2010, their aim was to infuse it with a more regional identity. Embracing native drums and other instrumentation, they also made use of guest vocalists singing not only in English, but in indigenous languages like Zulu and Tsonga. They found early success with songs like "Banane Mavoko" and "Set Me Free," both of which ended up on their 2011 debut album, ‘Talking to the Drums’. Sophomore album ‘Aquarian Drums’ arrived in 2012 and over the next few years, Black Motion began making appearances internationally from Europe to North America, attracting new audiences with their dynamic live shows.
Following 2014's gold-selling Fortune Teller album, they earned widespread critical acclaim for 2016's 'Ya Badimo' which won them a South African Music Award. 2018’s ‘Moya Wa Taola’ was another wide-ranging album with unique rhythms and instrumentation and numerous collaborators. The duo spent the following year releasing massive singles like "Joy Joy" featuring Brenden Praise and "Everything" featuring Mo-T and in 2020 the duo picked up their 2nd SAMA Award for the acclaimed album “The Healers”.
