PLEASE READ: It ts very important that you check and make sure that your hair dryer is PTFE/Teflon Free. PTFE toxicity in birds acts quickly and are typically fatal. DEATH All types of birds are affected by PTFE toxicity. Smaller birds suffer even faster due to their size Birds, with their highly-efficient and sensitive respiratory systems, are at risk of death with even brief exposure. Ironing board covers, irons, heating lamps, electric heaters, hair dryers, curling iron, griddles, waffle irons, popcorn makers, roasters also have the same compound PTFE (like Teflon) on some of their parts. Many appliances that use heated air contain PTFE to keep dust from collecting on the fan blades and causing a fire hazard. Even the relatively low heat of a dryer or clothes iron may result in the production of some carbonyl fluoride. All types of birds are affected by PTFE toxicity. Smaller birds suffer even faster due to their size

Blow drying dries out skin on any mammal, human or otherwise. If it is done properly and safely as in Jan's reply, they are fine. Their oils start surfacing again soon afterwards anyways. Here's a bit of advice, instead of assuming that the person in the video is doing it wrong, try asking questions in a respectful manner and not in all caps. Sheesh!

@GiulioGiorcelli I clipped her wings after she bit the cord to the TV. She could have been killed. If you clip the wings before they fledge (learn to fly) It can cause problems. But if they learn to fly and then clip the wings they are okay. Kind of like if a toddler never learns to crawl before walking they will have problems later.

why are you done so soon? your baby is still waiting for more. did you stop early because of the camera? also, if they are really soaked, it's best to start out with only a little movement of the dryer (but still keep moving, of course). try it out on yourself when you are sopping wet--see how too much movement makes a bad wind-chill, while too little movement makes bad hot-spots. because of that, i usually put my hand in front of the dryer and test feathers as i go. ours like dryers too :)

Your bird is beautiful! I bought a hyacinth last year. Why does everyone think your rich to own a bird like this? I'm poor but just saved and bought my bird. I would love to hold one of these birds. Do they have the same gentleness as most cockatoos? I know they are rare, I've been to many bird shows and I have never seen a hyacinth or black palm for sale! You are blessed, your bird is awesome!!!

I have to agree with you Sonny. It's interesting that in the US and Canada it is strongly advised to clip companion bird wings as a matter of "safety". In the UK it's looked upon as being somewhat cruel. A bird needs to fly in order to maintain proper respiratory health (and birds are unfortunately so prone to respiratory illness). Those muscles need to be exercised.

This is disgusting, having a palm cockatoo as an unnaturally alone pet in the US. She looks sick and has had her wings clipped too much. The only way that such an ancient threatened status bird that breeds successfully only every few years can be out of Australia is by the cruel international smuggling and on breeding of the illegal pet trade. Many more birds die than survive in it. So many Americans are just so painfully ignorant of how their exotic reptiles, bird and animals get to be there! By buying them from corrupt pet shops and breeders at the end of the criminal chain they are financing terrible cruelty, totally due to their inadequate laws.

there is nothing wrong with clipping wings. both my parrots have their wings clipped and its for their own safety. I know it is always better to have full flight feathers but sometimes its safer to have clipped wings. and besides, would you want to even take the risk of a $10,000+ bird being able to fly away when its not trained for free flight...

this is my male Palm's favorite video to watch. And in her defense, careful warm blow drying is not bad for them. You move the dryer constantly and keep your hand in there to be sure it doesn't get too hot. I like the one where she goes through the hoop - lol.

couple days ago I went to a bird store...and this place was a legit bird store... the workers there hand raise all their birds from hatchlings....please don't get a parrot or any animal from PETCO or Petsmart ....they aren't really expierenced or knowledgeable...they don't really know anything about their animals and they don't really pay attention or handle their animal so the animals are aggressive...plus they charge way too much....anyway i just wanted to look around.... its awesome cuz some of their birds are just hanging out freely around the store....I wasn't there for long..I just had a few questions to ask...i never owned a bird....I want to get one......i saw they had a Palm cockatoo...I don't think it was for sale...the guy at the desk told me that particular species of cockatoo would cost around 2100...o.o

They cost a lot more than. That... you can't touch a palm cockatoo in the US does under $8k and if it's your 1st bird I would not recommend them.. start with a parakeet and move up...
