I’ve been waiting for a video like this on KZitem for awhile. I know this is not the most scientific tests but you answered a lot of my questions. Thanks bro.

This was an awesome test. Just last week I was researching the strengths comparison of G10 & CF. Would love to see more tests like this. Just make sure everyone is wearing safety glasses next time.

Thanks for posting. I think the 1000lb press test was the most uniform. I've got Griptilians in carbon and g10 scales. love them both. the carbon is lighter and also stronger, so IMO better. That said, both are some of the best materials available for weight/strength ratio. That crossbow test was nuts!

for the axe test i would guess the flexibly of the G10 absorbed the impact better then the ridged CF

It seems like CF wouldn't deform under pressure as easily as G10, though it could theoretically break sooner. Very interesting tests, thanks guys!

I'm not saying at all that Carbon Fiber doesn't have many great uses as a structural material, not by a longshot. All I'm saying, is I wouldn't build an airplane out of it. Most people like it just because it looks cool. Carbon Fiber auto body panels? Yes! Knife Scales? Yes, all day long! Structural material to build an aircraft? Hell NO! I've worked with this stuff for many years, I know it's strengths and it's weaknesses, it's a great material, but I wouldn't bet my life on it, that's all.

The way this stuff just snaps is enough to tell me i'd rather have Titanium scales for a knife. A bridge made of G10 doesnt exist so that probably tells you something. SNAP

The reason they both have their strengths and weaknesses all depends on weave direction and most importantly the resin system used to make it. Some of your tests are invalid comparing them both. Never in any circumstances will G-10 rival the strength of carbon fiber, nor the heat resistance, just like your test showed.

You just showed the whole world why the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is doomed to a catastrophic failure. Caron fiber gives no indication of weakness prior to failure. When any metal is stressed to the point of failure, there is a visual indication (i.e. Cracking, Stress fractures etc.) prior to the failure. Carbon fiber doesn't give any visual indications of impending failure, until the moment of failure. It might make for a Bad Ass knife scale material, but would you fly in an aircraft made of it????

where carbon fiber goes when you hit it with a axe. 5% right where you hit it. 10% goes 10 feet from where you hit it. 20% in your neighbours garden 65% teleport to an alternate dimension, never to been seen again.

I dont know if you think your being funny, or if you are actually not being sarcastic. But If you are working in a factory setting prying open containers and packaging and using your knife every minuet. Under high pressure and heat cheep handle materials will break, sheer, and splinter. And that shit will fuck your hard up if your not wearing gloves.
