Finally, someone else saying out loud, things I’ve always felt since I was young (I’m 50 now) but couldn’t express for fear of my friends/family thinking I’m “Lazy” or “Dreaming”. People say that’s not real life & get your head out the clouds! I’m not interested in hustling & grinding at 50. Hell, I’m tired. I long for simplicity!

I was wondering the same. When will I be enough? Why is there always something to fix? Something to achieve? It’s similar to what religion taught me as a child. You were born a sinner, and all your righteousness were as filthy rags…..I mean c’ mon, you mean , no matter what I do, I’ll never be good enough for God? This system was set up to make us feel like there’s always a void to fill and it’s very tiring and can take a toll on our mental health.

@@freespirit-111 The beauty of Jesus Christ is He offers us a way to be "enough" when we believe on Him for salvation. He gives us His righteousness for free because He paid for it with His life. I know exactly where you’re coming from. I had always wanted to take a hiatus from work and in December 2017 that’s what I decided to do. In my experience, most African American women asked why and wanted to know if I was starting a family. I said no. They acted as if I needed a reason. All of the Caucasian women I encountered were very supportive. That was the best decision I made for myself. I eventually did return to work but look forward to another hiatus.

I’ve seen so many black women pushed to work themselves into an early grave way before retirement age. Yet, most of the black women i know who are 85+ years old, including my mother did not work or worked part time. This is enough evidence for me. Unfortunately the men who’ve seen their mothers overworked expect the same of their wives and the vicious cycle continues to the detriment of positive black life experiences, our culture & family. Thank you for this very insightful and important video.

Meaning, we have to do the grocery shopping, shopping for the kids, go to work, make your partner happy, then you have nothing left for you. I thought it was just me but going to the grocery store is almost as exhausting as dating these days 😂 there used to be a time I would like going to the store with my grandma, but my God times have changed so much. I do not identify as a Black woman but I am Egyptian-Palestinian-American and I greatly appreciate how you place our daily living in a larger societal capitalist, white supremacist framework. This is so fundamentally grounded in a slave system and I also think a lot of the problem is how people label us as 'lazy' or 'productive' and how those labels can become a self fulfilling prophecy instead of tuning into your own intuition. I got this "hustle and grind" mentality from my mom lol. I spent so much time working and feeling not enough even when I was slaving away 3pm-11pm Monday-friday with a company that didn't allow me any time off because I refused to take additional weekend shifts. During this period my mother made me feel like I wasn't doing enough on top of me trying to pursue a nursing degree that I had to come to terms with that I don't even want. Mind you I am only 22 and I have 0 kids. I missed out on so much of my time trying to impress my mother and peers who came from better homes and I am EXHAUSTED. I should not be this depressed at such a young age and I feel like this mentality has made me believe that I don't deserve to be happy because I haven't earned it and these aren't even my beliefs or values, these are my moms. I am tired of rushing to have everything together when I don't even know what I like nor have I had a chance to even explore for that matter. I know deep down I am a creative and need to have fun and explore that side of myself, not work my life away in shitty minimum wage jobs and pursing a degree and Idek I even want. My mom used to yell at me every morning because my "laziness" "hurt" her because I would struggle to even get out the bed and do basic necessities. I am TIRED and I just want to be FREE.

He shows me the person I will be but I thought I was suppose to grind to get there. I know the truth now. I'm being arrogant and not trusting Him and for me to do unpopular things like sitting down for a while. Keep up your content you are helping people like me.

This video was necessary!!!! When I say I am so glad someone other than myself has this mentality! As a kid, I've felt this way, but I did things simply because I was told to, and I didn't want to be deemed lazy. I have 2 small children and I would always be busy. Sometimes, not with them, like being present mentally with them, taking them somewhere, creating memories with them, etc. So today was an eye-opener for me. I don't need what I've been told I need, my kids need me more, and I need to be whole. Thank you for speaking about this. Again, this video was necessary!!!!

I'm 24 and I've been feeling like this and I feel guilty sometimes but when I look around sometimes it just seem like alot of us just overwork ourselves just to feel worthy but we aren't really happy with the end result. It's so much I can say but I'm so glad I got a chance to watch, see, and take in your message. Thank you so much I appreciate this video, definitely a new subscriber. 🤗💝

I really think this is part of our healing as Black Americans in America. We have been the battery and fuel so many companies, systems, and start ups and buildings that didn't really appreciate blacks. I think part of my healing is just being present in environments and people that develop a better version of me. To chose to just BE instead of being the tool or resource for someone else/company to use. I agree daily life is hard in and of itself that why I never believed that people are born with a silver spoon in their mouths....cause even they have people problems, health problems, and mental conditioning problems.

I agree with everything, but that's a privilege. I am a single parent and I have to provide for my children. I wish I could lead a soft life. I pay the bills.
@AleciaRenece

I don't pretend to know what it's like to be a single parent. I would just say to try to find softness somewhere. Even if it's found within yourself. Speaking kindly to yourself. Pampering yourself. Spending time alone. I believe there's something we all can do to add more ease in our lives. "Soft life" is a trend, but being kind to yourself and gentle is necessary. It's not a privilege, it's a necessity. We have to take care of ourselves, everybody else can wait. And soft life looks different for different people. Don't focus on the aesthetics, focus on the feeling of comfort, kindness, self love. You can pay bills and still be kind and gentle to yourself. 🌺 Just because you're a single parent does not mean you don't deserve an easy life. 🫂 You deserve. 💛💛💛 💛💛💛💛💛

I cannot believe you have even replied, personally and promptly. I'm going theough your videos, very soothing. I can't tell you how 'seen' I feel. I usually write into nothing. I have sent your videos to my son and daughter as they could definitely learn from you. My daughter is closer to your age, she is 26. She sees life through your lens. She struggled to finish university when she should have rested in between her year abroad and her final year. My son is now working very hard at university. I am 60, and came across your channel a few month ago. I love it. It is necessary. You have provided me with a new lens through which to live life. Spring is here and I shall change. The Chinese proverb was profound. Thank you for what you do and you have a beautiful singing voice. Warm greetings from London, England 🇬🇧

is anyone else easily triggered when you see your coworkers doing extra at work? sometimes the old perfectionist/workaholic/need to impress/self esteem from work me wants to jump in and volunteer, but i've been through so much and i know i have to keep my emotional bandwidth in check at work because my job just keeps asking for so much, it's like i feel compelled to work, but also don't, it's weird duality

I could not understand that and that I was told I didn’t do enough and blah blah but I don’t mind chillen and going by my own pace rather it’s slow or medium speed lol I’m good, if y’all want to keep rushing and move, move, move all the time everything they do will never be enough and they are killings themselves slow or shoot even quickly, just chill, It’s okay to slow downnnn, chill out take a break! And go by your own paceee pleaseeee😮💨😮💨
