As a retired cop who has worn the Blackhawk serpa holster for last 15 years of my career off and on duty (as a detective), I had zero problems with my holster. I have not only worn it with my suits but also worn it on casual wear during raids and street operations. I have worn it at the range to qualify with. I have performed tactical shooting practices at the range with this holster. I recently joined a facebook group about firearms and they totally bashed me for having the holster. They showed me one video of a man who couldn't get the gun out of the holster because sand got into the holster, and a picture of one guy who shot himself in the foot while putting the gun back into the holster. Another video of a man in a struggle and getting the holster ripped off the pants. Apparently government agencies and many departments have wrote articles stating that the serpa holsters are not safe etc etc. They may be right. The serpa holster maybe not safe or not reliable, but like I said, I had no troubles with mine. At the end of the day, you want a gun that secures well in the holster and it stays on your belt until you need to draw your gun. It has performed perfectly. In and out of cars all day, resting my hand on gun and holster while sitting, even rolling around in a struggle with suspects for 15 years, the holster is in great shape today. Most people who were bashing me never even ever owned a serpa holster. By the way, my claws are in my paddle.

That’s called opinion sir, what you don’t like another user might love. Just like what you DO like, another guy might hate. Also, why anyone would want active retention for IWB/CCW is beyond me. Active Retention is great for open carry where everyone knows the pistol is there, but when my sidearm is concealed and I’m the only one who knows it’s there, why do I want Serpa retention? When I was running around after folks, jumping fences, dodging cars, dogs, old ladies, what have you, I loved my Serpa Drop Leg. I also trained well, often, and properly. YMMV

I own this holster for my Springfield XD 9 MOD 2 Subcompact, I test fit both the belt mount and the paddle mount before I made my choice of which one to use. I can tell you that with a good duty belt and the paddle mount and without the "teeth" installed it is near impossible to get the thing off. After I decided that I wanted to use the paddle mount I installed the "teeth" after reading the very easy to understand instructions, I wear a 1.75" belt and I have to undo my belt and pants to get the thing off. It does not slide or slip when I draw either. But if a person does not use the unlocking button correctly it can be difficult to draw the firearm. Again it comes down to reading the instructions and testing it with an unloaded firearm to familiarize yourself with how it operates before actually using it.

Eric Johanson the trigger finger release problem could easily be resolved by moving the release up on to the frame where you index your finger usually anyway. It's been a well known issue for years (to the point that many ranges/shoothouses ban them) and yet Black hawk & many others have not made such a simple fix. Also, a serpa/+retention holster on a paddle is moronic itself.

You are comparing two totally different types of rigs though. You can’t compare active retention holsters with passive retention rigs because they have different purpose. At one point in my life I was required to have active retention on my sidearm’s place of resting. In that instance your BladeTech unit might be the most comfortable in the world, but I couldn’t have used it. I’d venture to say the majority of people using active retention rigs are by necessity, it’s not a typical civilian choice by and large. If anything the most dangerous carry style, besides Mexican carry, I see are the new gun owners that open carry with an Uncle Mike’s nylon snap strap belt rig. You know, the $10 Walmart special that usually you see people open carrying with them, in a Walmart. Lol God those holsters make me cringe.

I have two Serpa holsters. One for my 1911 and one for my Glock 19. I use the paddles for ease of putting on and taking off. Wearing my holster with the paddle part in my pants between my pants and underwear my holster does not move at all when drawing. When you explain that your buddy having to hold the holster with one hand to be able to draw seems to be exaggerated and user error. The Sherpa is not a perfect holster but I do not see how this is a problem. The gun should come out easily once the button is pressed. If not the retention is to tight. My 1911 holster I had to remove the screw all together.
