The film fails for one key reason. The motivation for the villain is never explained. He orders the killing of innocent civilians but he does it offscreen and with no explanation as to why. The audience has to assume rationale. That's just bad writing 101.

Hmmm you see I love stuff like Commuter, Non Stop and Unknown so I will give this a watch. I actually do like that these film go to the cinemas because some people just wanna watch an old school action thriller instead of the countless Animated films or Superhero films. The movie is pretty mediocre, but it stuck out for one reason: the plot involves the murder of innocent people by heads of US government agencies. Before, the bad guys might be lower level 'rogue' agents, but here the villain is the Director of the FBI. Pretty daring. You'd think someone high up would have put the kibosh on this plot. Is there some kind of message in this thing?

Love the way the cnt of a boy-child news boss shakes and shivers helplessly unarmed then has his neck broken by the agent manually, not even needing an implement. Exactly what the emasculated youth of today needs. Words are fine and dandy when there are no "bad guys" with sharps and sticks and stones, but at someone's aggression, whether "he"/"she"/"it", it's idiotic to just shake unarmed waiting to be killed and raped (in whichever order). The reason the "right to bear" population is so "up in arms", is because those who are "tremble and die" want to impose their response to everyone, ignoring the fact that such an imposition violates EVERYONE'S right to defend oneself with disproportionate/categoric/lethal force of tools designed for just such response to aggression.

I'm sorry this comment is not related to the movie being reviewed. But my complaint has to do with Taken 3. Ok, you have someone who essentially plays a Hero, and is the Lead action star in all of his movies. So why make the character he's playing seem washed up and old. I don't need reminded that he is close to senior citizen age. They made him slow and aged, and he's supposed to be playing a Bad-ass, (because he is Bad-ass). I Love most or close to all of his movies. Sorry, but that bad writing and plot ruined Taken 3 for me. The other 2 movies were pretty great! You would be correct to say that "Blacklight" could and should have been offered at cinemas, (and on streaming). I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

I gave this a 3/5 on letterbxd because it's not a good movie and it could have been so much better, but I found it to be mildly diverting. But I realize now that I'm probably being too lenient and will probably drop it to a 2.5. The writing is the main culprit. The third act is a mess and ends in such befuddlingly disappointing manner. Neeson is fine. It has it's moments. Though if you are going into the movie to see Neeson kick ass, he really only does that in one scene near the very end. Those bad guys getting electrocuted was satisfying though. I will admit that. I haven't seen Neeson's last few movies (The Marksman, The Ice Road, Honest Thief) but it does look like he's been slumming it lately. Even Men in Black: International was disappointingly mediocre. Such a shame. I love Neeson and I don't mind him continuing action movies, I just him to be in good ones. Like The Commuter was one I enjoyed. Run All Night, Unknown, Non-Stop. I enjoyed those. But the ones he's been doing lately? Yeah, no. Sad.

("Jeff's Shed" aka Melbourne Convention Centre)..... simply lazy!!!
