Yes to more tests - particularly low light performance compared to other broadcast cameras, actual resolution tests (is it actually capable of resolving 4k images - the old BMD cameras weren't particularly good at this, while they could output a 4K SDI signal the resolution was actually a bit less) and what the rolling shutter is like - the last one particularly for ENG and Sports workflows. Would also be good to see what the possibilities for fitting into a live HDR workflow are - can you get a UHD HLG or PQ EOTF SDI output, what colour gamuts are available for these as well.

Interesting. So let me get this straight, if I had one of these cameras, my cell phone connected and shipped a Streaming Bridge to let's say, Weather Channel, NBC and CNN, and each of the engineering departments routed it into their signal chain, I could do live shots for all of these clients without having to have a LiveU? Would they need any other LAN setup or anything on their end to get the signal? How does the signal flow work from the cell carrier to the bridge? If that's all I would need it would be a game changer to be able to serve news clients as a freelancer.

Hi Carl, I'd like to add a vote for more tests. I have a low budget long term project with both ENG and cinematic aspects - not in the same film I hasten to add. I have EF lenses and the B4s now are very affordable. Currently using a C200 and XF400 (purchased from Pro Av!). I'm committed to DVR studio as well. The possibility of replacing two camera bodies with one does have its attractions. Ideally I'd like to see a quick demo of what can be done with a Canon x2 extender B4 as well as more cinematic applications with say the CNE 18-80. I've no experience at all with B4 lenses so take that bit gently! Cheers. Bob.

One drawback seems to be slow mo in high resolutions. I use the UMP G2 on a variety of entertainment broadcast shows and having 120fps in 4K or 240 in HD has come in really handy. Do you think this is something firmware could address or is it a limitation of the sensor?

AF works decently with some lenses and just hunts with others. I don't think there is any situation where the AF would be usable. It's much faster to focus by rotating the focus ring, using the focus demand, or with a 3rd-party solution like Tilta Nucleus.

I have four of the Ursa Broadcast G1's and am impressed at the specs of the G2. However, we recently purchased a Sony FX9 and an FX6. For outdoor and live events, the Sony's Auto focus and Auto ND puts them streets ahead of anything Blackmagic has to offer in this bracket and Sony's Full Frame picture quality is sublime. The only advantages to my mind with the Ursa Broadcasts is the B4 lens capability and their CCU/ATEM integration. I suspect I might invest in a couple of Ursa Broadcast G2's, as I have some very nice B4 lenses, but Blackmagic still has a way to go.

The new sensor is the “change that will probably make the most difference in image quality as the previous Ursa broadcast was not known for its low light performance." He can say that again. Look at this video at 8min 40 sec to see a test showing how poorly the Ursa Broadcast performs in low light compared with a 1/3 inch sensor news camera. And just imagine what would be the difference if I had used a 2/3 inch sensor news camera! kzitem.info/news/bejne/uopnx22umIN7nW0 The very CEO of Blackmagic says on video that the new sensor is "much better" than the previous one. You just don't say that something is much better than something else that was already good. The "much better" clear ly implies that the previous sensor was no good. " If you already own a Ursa Broadcast just the improved low light alone might be worth upgrading for”. I will not upgrade to the new camera. I want nothing to do with Blackmagic cameras anymore. Actually, I am fighting with the shop which sold me the Ursa Broadcast as a news camera when the camera is not such a thing because of the ridiculously low light performance, the lack of a proper news codec, the user unfriendly handle and other shortcomings as presented on the video in the link. They didn't have a camera that I could test so I trusted them and assembled the camera at home. When I realised the camera was not fit for purpose I tried to return it but the shop wouldn't issue a full refund! I am also going to report Blackmagic to the ACCC. P.S. I would strongly advice anyone who is interested in this G2 camera : Do not buy it unless the shop you choose has it fully assembled (camera, lenses, viewfinder etc) and on display so you can test the camera right there. As for the previous model: Don't buy it unless you want a studio camera only as that camera is not fit for field work. You can check my video on that but also check all reviews about that camera on KZitem. All reviews I've seen show the camera at work in studios, concerts etc. Not a single review shows the camera at work as a ENG camera. Not even the review on news shooter as they show the camera being used in a TV studio, but not in the field.
