I got it wrong Eddy. I couldn't see all the words as the camera swept over the words at an angle but it says "Bid me discourse. I will ( something or other) thy ear. there could be some other words too. well, well, well eh?

Hello Bill, I find it difficult to read the text depending on the light in the ballroom, but have looked it up on the Tower Web site that says that the words are from a poem by William Shakespeare about Venus and Adonis as she tries to seduce him, published in 1593. It reads BID ME DISCOURSE, I WILL ENCHANT YOUR EAR. There is so much history to the ballroom and I guess we take it for granted. Take care, thanks for the message.

Does it still say "lend me thy ear and I will bid you discourse" above the stage?

It certainly does, although it isn't always easy to read depending on the lighting in the ballroom. I wonder if the sparkle created by the new gold leaf refurbishment confusesthe eye.
