I definitely prefer the series one 6l6. Has what I call a "tighter" sound, if it can be called that. Also, the HT metal has a slightly more muffled sound to it. Both are good though, but for me, it's no contest, 6L6 FOR THE WIN!!!

I am a big fun of blackstar as well but to be honest for HEAVY metal, the metal series is the only way. I have tried the normal series and it did not deliver the tone I was looking for. The metal series nailed it and I bought it! No pedals needed, indeed. (Proud owner of ht5 metal combo)

I like the S1's more scooped, tighter sound with a lot more focus in the high mids. The HT Metal sounds a bit too honky and boxy with a focus in the center-low mids. Makes it sound more generic. I wonder if they can be EQ'd to sound closer together. Scooping the mids and bumping the treble on the Metal would do it wonders

The 6L6 S1 all day!. The Metal has a darker compressed tone which I would have loved when I was younger, I could hear more string separation and clarity (Dynamics?) in the S1. Great review, succinct and quick.

Great video Matt! I like the Series one a bit better. It seems like it's more refined than the HT Metal. However, I would choose the HT Metal for a darker sounding song. Both amps are undeniably great in my opinion. Blackstar makes some awesome amps and it would be hard pressed to find a new amplifier in these two price ranges that have as much chugginess as these two. Blackstar for the win! Always be awesome my friend! Riffmaster Family for life! \m/

Matt, I honestly love the tightness that the series one brings. The ht sounds a little more fuzzy and darker. The series one is less fuzzy and enhances the natural distortion of the strings and sounds meaner in my opinion. You can really hear the strings and the player behind it

Question here. I have a Peavey Rotor Explorer type guitar, with a cheap licensed floyd rose (which i hate), and all the hardware and pickups are Peavey stock. Cant get it in tune, action is way to high, its really not pleasant to play. I was thinking of getting some EMG pickups, changing the floyd for a Schaller Vintage Tremolo, and changing the stock tuners. Would it work as a replacement of the floyd? Do you think this would solve the problem? Which tuners should i buy? Greetings from Argentina!

Hey, HT Metal 100 (od2) and S1 6L6 (od 2) channels if cranked are similar or the HT Metal is super-saturated and S1 no? I need an amp with super-saturated gain but HT Metal doesn't has MIDI, so I'm thinking about S1... but I wouldn't take an amp and need to put an overdrive in front of od2 channel to have super-saturated tone. Thanks!

haha i mean that the speakers in the ID cabs are voiced for the ID amps.. they were custom made to be more flexible so for the ID amps to give the most of those sounds they can provide.. they DO sound AWESOME, no doubt about that but if you had the speakers replaced with celestion vintage 30s in that cab, you cannot imagine what sound those VALVE heads would give out.... it would be like comparing the light during the day, with the light during the night... i know a guy that just replaced the speakers in the ID straight cab and the difference is huge... just saying... nothing wrong with the speakers... so if you see it in reverse, if you use the ID head with that cab having v30s, the ID head should sound worse.. despite the v30s being better speakers, the ID amp tries to emulate tubes, blended with the preamp voice, so it needs its own voiced speakers.. if you get what i mean... of course they are awesome sounding still.. but the series one cab uses v30s.. and there is a huge reason for that... ;) thats what i mean when im saying that it is not fair for those beasts haha

Sounds like the main difference is where the mids sit, the One seemed to be more in the nasal region where as the Metal was a tad lower, in the honk range. I like the HT Metal, seriously underrated amp for the price. It’s a bit ‘looser’ and grimier than say a 5150/6505.
