My home town of Coggeshall in Essex has some great walks to offer. One of those walks is along a beautiful stretch of the River Blackwater. It's steeped in history as far back as the Vikings which, by all accounts, sounded pretty brutal. The Blackwater stretches from Maldon to Bocking where it then becomes the Pant. It has 2 tributaries, the Chelmer in Chelmsford and the Brain in Witham.
The walk boasts a magical quality to it. Willow lined and snaking through the stunning Essex countryside, The Blackwater offers a huge variety of wildlife to please any budding photographer or naturalist. If you're looking for somewhere to blow-out those lockdown cobwebs, you'd be hard-pushed to find somewhere more beautiful than the Blackwater trail.
I'd love to hear about your experiences and what wildlife you see in the comments section below.
