A series of cues to accompany the spaceship Scorpio in the fourth season of the BBC science fiction series Blake's 7 from 1981.
When Blake's 7 returned for its fourth season, the Liberator was gone and the surviving crew acquired a new spacecraft: the souped up Wanderer class 'planet hopper' Scorpio. Designed by Jim Francis and built by Ron Thornton, Scorpio was accompanied by music from Dudley Simpson.
Dudley Simpson (1922-2017) composed the music for every episode in the show's final season. The majestic cues and glistening electric keyboards that often scored the Liberator are, for the most part, replaced by a more abrasive churning synth sound to convey the Scorpio's 'scruffy bag of bolts'. Simpson picks up on the reference to the Scorpio being a 'planet hopper' by giving its initial appearance a rhythmic phrase that alternates between two notes, literally hopping between them, to further the sense of it being a rundown vessel (until it acquires a photonic stardrive later in the series!).
