I am so fortunate to have lived during the original broadcast of this program, I now live in a world where everything is offensive and demeaning to anyone and everyone,when in truth,this was not the case. Laughing with and at each other actually brings us closer and bridges divides. The curtailing of particular comedy, not deemed suitable, simply exacerbates tension - comedy is a relief from real world frustrations and allows cultural differences to be seen in a comedic light.
@geoffpoole483

Part of the humour in the show came from Sgt Major Williams, who was a professional soldier, finding himself in charge of a concert party when he'd much rather be having a go at the Japanese.

@@geoffpoole483 : Indeed Geoff - his obvious frustration and anger is played brilliantly. He’s a real soldier, who’s seen service and sees the concert party troupe as a bunch of “softies” who are effectively dodging the front line. A very funny scenario set up by the excellent script writing; we watched this as a family back in the seventies and whilst I was too young to fully appreciate it, I remember my mum and dad roaring with laughter. Watching it now, it’s stood the test of time and is still hilarious like Dad’s Army.

Exactly. Humour based on cultural cliches, and laughter as a natural response offer healthy release from inevitable tensions that arise around controversial/taboo subjects in society. As has already been said, yes the BBC likely will not broadcast this show again because of today's political correctness. It was only 2 months ago that one of the senior BBC Editors said that if Monty Python crew were starting out today, "they would not succeed because they are too white." ........and nothing was done. If he had said the opposite, that a group was "too black" all hell would have broken loose and he would have been fired in less than a 24 hour period. What a sad, over-sensitive world we live in. It almost makes one desire to be offensive to make a point! Bollocks to political correctness!

Usually the easily offended tend to go away after use of a phrase along lines of go and make love to a goat .

Seems to me like it's the right who go nuts when there's a hint of diversity on TV, aren't they the real snowflakes? Look at the Daily Mail on any given day - they go puce with rage at the drop of a hat,same with Farage et al. It's the reactionaries who can't cope.

Absolutely fantastic,loved this show so much. We will never ever see the likes of this programme on our TVs again thanks to the soft snowflakes of the modern world! Any one remember the tv show 'Mind Your Language '? That was f**king hilarious!
