Yazıttaki; "Blaundeon Makedonon” ibaresi antik kent hakkında açık ve net bilgiler vermektedir. Blaundos Ancient City
Blaundos; It was founded by people coming from Macedonia after the Anatolian Campaigns of Alexander the Great, and it is said that the people of the city called themselves Macedonian Blaundos. The city, which was connected to the Kingdom of Pergamon after Alexander the Great and then to the Roman Empire, increased in importance during the Roman Period. Located on a peninsula surrounded by deep valleys, the important structures of the city include a castle, temples, theatre, stadium and rock tombs.
Blaundos Ancient City is built on a peninsula-like structure surrounded by very deep and steep valleys on three sides. The fact that it was built on a peninsula-shaped piece of land shows that the entrance to the city was only through the gate in the north.
In 1845, when Hamilton found an inscription known to come from this city, it was confirmed that the name of the ancient city was Blaundos. In the inscription; The phrase "Blaundeon Macedonon" gives clear information about the ancient city. With the death of Alexander the Great, the city fell to the share of Antigonos, one of the 8 generals, also called Deokodos, who had conflicts over sharing the empire among themselves. The city was conquered by Rome from the Kingdom of Pergamon in 189 BC. The city, which was an important settlement area during the Roman period, was connected to the Diocese of Sebaste, which is located within the borders of Sivaslı District of Uşak Province and is also the center of the bishopric, in the 5th century BC.
Some ruins of the city have survived to the present day. Examples include the entrance gate arch of the northern walls built during the Hellenistic period, mint sections, administrative buildings, some parts of the city walls, the Ionian style temple located in the middle of the city and the temple of Roman Emperor Claudius, and the stadium with seating levels on only one side. The ruins of the theater on the southern slope of the city and the rock tombs right next to it are also structures worth seeing.
Antike Stadt Blaundos
