You can also use mask selection to avoid weight painting on other hair strands. This is useful if you don't want to separate your mesh. What you do is select the faces of the mesh you want in edit mode than once you go over to weight paint mode look down in the bottom left of the window where your mode selection tab is also located. You will see a icon that looks like a white square in front of a blank square. Hover your mouse over it and it will say paint mask. Just click that and you should be good to go. When it's active it should be blue and the parts of the mesh you did not select should have a white film look over it which indicates those parts can not be painted on and are now masked. If you want to just to mask a small section of your mesh instead and want to do it quickly. Just select the polys of the small region in the editor and press ( ctrl + i ). This will invert your selection and will select the rest of your mesh. Now in weight paint or texture paint that small region will be masked and the rest of your mesh can be painted on. Just thought I'd remind everyone about this small useful feature.

This is amazing! How did you make your hair in blender before rigging it? Can I ask does hair rigging work alone or with a circle curve, path curve, polygon, particles, which is the best way to create stylized hair for animation (dancing, flowing hair?) Also if my character was to dance to Kpop music which out of the four-character rigs should I use: Basic FK, IK, Bendy Bone, and Spline IK Rigs? I just can't choose.

Thank you very much for this tutorial. It helped me a lot for rigging characters. I also wanted to suggest a tutorial on how to rig clothing onto rigged characters in Blender 2.8. I am currently making a model of character with a sleeves that pass its hands. I wanted to create a normal clothing rig and a rig where the sleeves would fall naturaly onto its arms but fall according to gravity where its loose while walking. I tried using cloth simulation but the sleeves kept clipping in and out of the character. Thanks again for the tutorial it motivates me to keep 3D modelling.

I'm also wondering if a method like you describe would be the way to go if you want to have inter-changeable hairstyles, as I'm thinking the armature is going to get far too busy with excessive hair bones if you need to make a unique set of bones for each hairstyle.

I think "this is interesting, I'll save it in a playlist for me to reference later", this playlist being short useful blender videos. The next video I consider adding to the playlist is this one that I found a few days later, funny enough though, I realize the voice sounds familiar. Sure enough, same guy.
